Which Fram oil filter works with the 350? Is it the Ph5, or Ph 13?
I know dumb question, but I heard that they don't make one of the 2 oil filters anymore. Thanks

Cant help with the fram but know that the ac delco is a PF35

I don't use Fram filters either...i have cut one open and they don't have alot of material on the inside.

I use a Wix 51061 for my 350 (has an anti drainback valve too). Costs about $5.50 but is worth every penny IMO

I always used PH13, untill i too cut one up. I use NAPA filters, but that's becouse I get them free at work. (they are made by WIX)

use a wix man - i saw a cut-away of a bunch of fliters & wix was the best - thicker metal & better guts. They're more coin but thats all I use.

I used Fram for years. They used to be good. Now all they have in mind is corporate profits & make them as cheap as possible. I've also switched to NAPA......Zoomy

Wix, Hastings, Napa are about the only good filters on the market. Fram is like on the bottom with AC Delco one step up from that. Its called you get what you pay for. Fram $2.49 at Wallmart or you can pay $5 or $6 for a real filter. Kinda reminds me of when I bought a helmet for my Polaris. The guys said you buy a $20 helmet if you have a $20 head. the same goes for filters. Its protecting the life of the motor. All I can add is DON"T use Valvoilne Maxlife! Just my 4.5 cents worth.

WOW!!! With this new info I will definately be switching to a Wix filter. Thanks for setting me on the right path!!! Funny how this thread changed from a 'which part number' to a you need to change to a different filter. Thanks again for the great info!!!

If you use NAPA filters only use the gold. They are rated real well (flow versus filtration). K & N are the tops and Mobile 1 is a good filter also.

Yep, Fram are junk. They spend more on advertising than anyone else and then end up with the worst filter on the market.
WIX,Mobil 1,NAPA,Purolator and K&N are about the only way to go.

there are only 3 manufacturers that make oil filters one is fram the other hastings and the other purolator other then that one of those 3 companies make them. i use purolators myself

I have been using Mobil1 oil filters. I agree you get what ya pay for. I don't skimp on oil filters or air filters or oil breathers.

i use the napa golds also. i think the part number is 1061. but if you give them the fram part number you use they can cross referance it for you.

I use a bypass and a Fram filter. After reading these posts,
I believe I will switch from the Fram.

Not entirely correct. And what makes it hard is some brands change the manufacture that makes their filters.
Honeywell (merged with Allied Signal and owns Bendix and others) makes Fram, Deutch, Luberfiner, Toyota OEM and did make Quaker State (for many years).
Avin Meritor makes Purolator Premium Plus, PureOne, Ford OEM, V1, and now Quaker State among others.
DANA makes filters for WIX and makes the NAPA Gold (NAPA Silver filters are made buy cheapest bidder and manufacturer has varied so stay away from these--see my post above).
Clarcor owns Baldwin and Hastings and also makes Amsoil's filters.
Champion Labs makes Mobil 1, K & N, Supetech, Bosch Premium, STP, Ultra Guard Gold, and AC Delco Duraguard. Keep in mind even if different brands are made in the same factory by the same company, quality is different between them as Champion Labs shows having some of the best and some not.
Additionally DANA makes MOPAR/Autopar, AC Delco and Ford For Canada.

I also remember as a kid the old Kralinator Filter factory that was a few blocks away from where I lived. It's now Dana!

I have never unscrewed a Delco PF-35 off an engine because the filter failed. Just like I have never seen a round or worn out Firestone tire as the belts always break before they wear out, but that is another hot topic we can save for a thread all its own!

I don't believe that the bigger issue is the filter failing. And how do you know the filter wasn't bypassing? How do you know how well it was working (filtering)? More importantly how good of filter is it? Flow versus filtration are the keys here. Filters are just like intake manifolds or heads. Some suck, some are good and some are outstanding. I, like many assumed Fram was a top of the line filter. Never used anything but Fram and Castrol Syntec. Then someone told me otherwise which led to research which led to Fram sucks and Castrol Syntec is not a synthetic (except for the price). Everyone will have their personal tastes and there is more than one good filter out there and more than one good oil. It just seems like most don't put the same thought into the oil and filter brand like they do with a carburetor purchase. Sort of similar to the synthetic versus non synthetic arguement. Why wouldn't you want a few easy horsepower and a average of 9 degrees less operating temp for your engine? For a lot of people the cost is the deciding factor for not using synthetic. But by having a few oil analysis done most can extend the oil change interval to make up for the cost.
