Steering column gaiter breaking down

Please see the attached picture. Is this serious and what's involved to replace it? I'm inclined to defer on it, depending on what you say, because in my short time of owning classic vehicles I have already learned that fixing one thing results in three other issues becoming a problem. I drive about 1000 miles a year. Thanks Rob

I don't necessarily consider it a problem. It is a dust boot and a couple of my trucks don't even have one on them. If you were going to be driving it on dusty gravel roads constantly it could get gummed up maybe. I just wash mine off with a brush and some solvent, re-grease it and wipe off any excess grease with a rag. It doesn't take much grease to lube it.

I don't know if replacement boots are available or not. If they were new made ones they wouldn't last 6 months anyway....

Just my 2¢ worth.
