New member, new truck, little confused on year...
Got a new pickup, but I'm new to the C-10 scene. I'm also in Afghanistan right now, but my wife got it in the shop and snapped a couple pics.
I'm slightly confused now though as I start reading threads as to the year? The title says it's a '69, but I isn't the grill a '71-'72 style? Also, from reading wheel threads, shouldn't '69's have 6 lug axles, while mine has 5 lug front and read and front discs? If you folks that are more familiar could get me started on the good and bad, or unique items, I would surely appreciate it. It's on 20's, but I'm not fond of the rims. Does it appear to be standard ride height? I don't have anything to compare it too and the rims throw me off a little. It's also a 350/350 truck. Cheers! -Shayne |

I can't help you with the truck, but I am retired Army and did my time over there too. Keep your head down bud and thanks for what you do. Looks like you've a great truck to come home to.

First off. I'm assuming you are serving our country. If that's the case thank you very much.
As for the truck. She's a beaut! Sometimes people will change the grille. That grille is definitely a '71-'72 Get the vin and glove box spid. Also sometimes guys will get a cab off a donor truck if the original is rusted out. The vin goes with the cab. Mark

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
The cab rear view mirror tells me this is a 71 cab. The 72 is attached to the windshield.
As others have said, very nice truck Thank you for your service. Our son is military also.

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
69 style gas pedal is in it, which mounts to the floor with round ball studs. It has 72 door panels and 71-2 outside mirrors. The tilt column shift indicator in installed backwards, the relive groove at the bottom front, actually goes to the rear and locates the gear indicator pointer.
Looks like an aftermarket seat that was sold in the 80's I always liked those. Nice looking truck. |

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
Appreciate it all guys. I'm actually retired USAF and working as a contractor now.
You guys know a lot about these! So, looks like a bit of a Frankenstein truck? Could be worse. Am I mistaken about the hubs and axles? 5 lugs all around and front discs would be '72? VIN is CS149S869354. |

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
Cab is a 1969 given that vin number.
Origally was a inline 6 cylinder Built in St Louis Possibly for wrecked and someone got 71 72 donor truck. These parts are all interchangeable for the most part and as long as the work was done right it doesn't matter. Sweet truck! I have a 1970 that originally had 6 lug wheels and drums all around. Someone along the way converted to 5 lug with front disc brakes. I would love to thank them for that! RRM

Thanks for your service. Its amazing the details that are picked up from the pictures posted and how people can identify the differences between model years. Another reason i love this forum.

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
You need to validate all the serial numbers on the truck.
I just retired from the Army and have ran across a lot of interesting "trucks" if you will. In the south I have seen what I call a lot of Mutt Trucks, which were re-titled, wrong information and some states that I was stationed in would not touch them with a 10 foot pole with the DMV. Check the frame vin, title, vin plate, glove box door. If they all match, then you got a truck that someone just did a lot of updating. Hope they all do match, sadly this series of trucks is so popular that people are exploiting these trucks to the max. Partial frame vin is located at the front left frame by the power steering pump. Will have the back half of the vin# not the complete vin. Also located on the driver side frame rail under the cab. For yours it should be S869354. Nice truck. Smitty

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
I am sure it's just a '69 truck that was redone with the preferred 71/72 stuff, as so many do. Kinda like all the GMCs with bowties and 69-72s with '68 front ends out there

69 cab with 72 parts. 1972 door panels anyways. It's a mutt. Enjoy it. Somebody spent a lot of money and time putting that together

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
Can't blame you not liking those rims.
I asked a performance-minded friend about those kinds of rims. "Well if you like feeling every bump in the road, ya get rims like that." I live where there are lots of bumpy roads. I decided I liked standard rims. Ride height looks about right, might be a little bit high. (Been years since I've had my truck off blocks so I can't remember). Like others said above, it's an older truck someone (for whatever reason) wanted to look like a newer truck. None of that is permanent, you could reverse it if you wished. It's not a bad looking truck, enjoy. Be happy your wife does things like that for you! Stay safe in Afghanistan, try to help where you can, come home in one piece brother. |

Re: New member, new truck, little confused on year...
NICE truck. I like the color a lot, and the seat is beautiful. The tag/VIN matches up, which is nice.
With luck you have a build sheet. I don't know where it would be on that truck, but with a bench seat it was located at the bottom of the seat. The 350 was an add on. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=570059 Most wheels have been replaced. The originals were steel with hub caps. I believe the height ("stance") is factory. Like others have said, thank you for your service. VIN: C: 2WD S: Inline 6 engine 1: 1/2 ton 4: Pick-up 9: 69 S: St. Louis Balance: Serial number Model: C: 2WD S: Inline 6 engine 1: 1/2 ton 07: SWB (115") 34: Fleetside
