what trans fits
I am new to the boad . I have a SB 70 just swaped the I-6 and 3 speed for a 267 and short shaft auto from a 82 car (I know but it was real cheep) drive shaft was to short someone told me a long shaft would work with my old drive line so I swaped in a 350 long shaft trany now my drive line is 1 inch to long.I am having a shaft made but can anyone tell me what trans fits

I am wondering if you used the right motor mounts or have them in the right location as the driveshaft should have fit. Good luck! Jim |

Thanks I had not thought of that all the motor mount stuff came from 86 3/4 ton I thought all the mounts and tower were the same . I used the only holes that would line up.I am not much of a mech. I am lerning as I go lots an lots of rework.The trans did seem to close to the under side of the cab.I'll look at it with NO buget moving it all forward beats $100 bucks for drive shaft.

May have to drill a few holes, or just find the right V8 mounts.
Mine has a short (6 inch) tailshaft TH350 in it stock. I have a two piece driveshaft on mine. With a little mod you can install any tranny 2004r, 700r4, Th 350, Th400, Powerglide. BTW welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Post some pics of your truck!

All right Guy, your truck was an original 6 cyl 3 speed truck right? It had a one piece shaft from the factory didn't it?
If you move the V8 to the proper forward location, AND use a 9 inch tailshaft TH350 tranny, the driveshaft will be the right length. The 9 inch tranny was used in 73 up trucks. Stock 67-72 trannys were the 6 inch version. Also, the 700R4 is the exact same length as the 9 inch TH350, so they swap straight in using the stock shaft too. Make sure you use the proper V8 mounts in the right location though!

I've found that anything will fit, if you get it going fast enough or use a big hammer!

Thanks for all your help . I moved the motor mounts and cross member forward redrilled everthing just gotta go get more trany fluid and I can drive it after 3 months . Wish I had had access to this bord when I started. Will post pic's soon as I get a hold of the right kinda camara.Thanks again.
