Shift indicator light, brightness?

The Shift Indicator light on my tilt column is not very bright. In fact, it's barely visible, even when it's dark out. I haven't put the green filter on yet, as I wanted to make sure everything works first. There's a metal "filter" over the bulb, with a small square hole in it (I assume to keep down the glare).
How should that hole be oriented, to the right, toward the dash, or toward the steering wheel?
I'm not sure where it faces now. Am I right in thinking it needs to be to the right, so it lines up with the PRND21

It only installs one way and I think it points to the right...

Re: Shift indicator light, brightness?

Hmm. So is there any way to brighten it up a little? Will the green filter give the indicator letters more contrast? Maybe Im answering my own questions, and just need to take it apart and see for myself.
Thanks for the info

I put a new bulb in mine earlier this week and went out to see how bright it was right after I posed last night. I put the green filter in it too.
Mine is not very brighttt and really only lights up the left half of the indicator, drive is barely lit up and low isn't at all

Randy. Yeah, mine is the same. It looks to be one of those features that just doesn't work that great.

The green filter does help a bit but it's still not the brightest.

How's the connection and or if there's a ground use for it.
