Caltracs
I have a leaf spring truck and with the HP I'll be putting to the rear wheels I have decided to install a set of Caltracs. Does anyone have any input on how much they had to modify the front spring perches? I found one thread on the forum, but Calvert Racing techs have told me it may require just a bit of "trimming". Im hoping its minor. Thoughts?

Re: Caltracs
I'm not sure but I'll be finding out soon. I'm waiting for my c notch to arrive. I have a flip kit, new leaf springs and Caltracs ready to install.

Re: Caltracs
I built a 1969 GMC and used the caltracs set up. I flipped the rear end and installed factory leaf springs with caltracs. My rear end was very close to the frame and if I would hit a bump hard enough it would bottom out. That was about my only con. I didn't modify anything on the front hanger. However, you have to install their aluminum bushing in the front eye of the leaf. This ends up being metal on metal and I am not sure how this would hold up over time. I had a 383 with th400 and 411 gears. I would get consistent 1.60 60 foot times and run 12.70's in the quarter. The truck hooked really well. Just be sure to preload the suspension on burnouts and launching. You will get all sorts of instructions and tips. Very well thought out and I think you will enjoy the set up.

Re: Caltracs
I have a set on my '69 short step. Factory HD leafs and I flipped rear using DJM kit. I had to remove the overload leaf as it hit the CalTrac bar but I didn't have to modify spring hanger at all.
I'm finishing up a 427 build for the truck and will be swapping in a TH200 4R and a set of 3.73 on the factory Posi. At that time I will set pinion angle and weld on perches instead of the flip kit. I'm just more comfortable with that once I'm putting beyon 307 power to the ground.
