SF Bay Area newbie, 72 GMC 2500

Hello everyone!

I bought a 72 GMC 2500 Sierra Grande this morning. I've known about this board ever since I stumbled upon Frizzle Fry's Project Driftbeam years ago. Now I'm here as an owner!

I'm new to trucks, American-made vehicles, and vehicles older than I am, so I'm knocking out three birds with one stone here Also I think carburetors are only slightly less full of black magic than automatic transmissions.

Without further ado, here's my truck!

Yes, it has quite a bit of "patina". I think maybe one cab corner will need to be replaced, but overall none of the rust seems structural or to go all the way through. Ok, there's one spot in the bed, but hey. I'm from New England, I've seen far worse.

The all important SPID:

It drives pretty well, except for popping out of 3rd gear sometimes and it looks like someone cared for the mechanicals, or was at least sympathetic to them. Great oil pressure, coolant temperatures good, charging system works great. Brakes are nice and solid.

I was looking for something fun and cheap. At $2200, I thought this fit the bill nicely, and I'm looking forward to lumber yard and junk yard runs that aren't limited by the size of my DD's trunk.

Welcome. That neighborhood looks familiar, San Carlos?

Nice truck. What are your plans for it?

You've got it, though I won't narrow it down here in public. I do not lack for body shops nearby!

My plans are to address only the most serious needs now and give myself some time to decide where to go with it. I'm not interested in fanatical originality, I'm looking for something that I can use and enjoy. The truck will be street parked for at least the next year or so, so I won't do anything that can be undone by idiots, hooligans, or the elements.

My other "toy" car is a '94 Mazda Miata I've had for 12 years. That car varies between driveable/trackable and torn apart at least two or three times a year. It's currently apart while I design and build an individual throttle body intake. See my build thread over on the GRM forums.
