Where to place to correct heat sending unit?
Okay I'm going to go get the right sending unit (hopefully). Im running the old style 202 heads which doesn't have the place between the 1 and 3 plug so should I place it in the port on the intake or in the top of the water pump? Im running and Edelbrock air gap. I only have a 3/8 in intake and the water pump has a 1/2.

Go with the intake crossover and re-thread the intake hole to the right size.
Someone on here was offering a turned-down version of the stock sender if you are reluctant to re-thread the intake hole.

I agree with putting it in the intake as well. It will give you a more accurate reading of engine temp compared to putting it in the pump.
Just an fyi on something that happened to me years ago so you can avoid it. Measure the sensor probe length to make sure it doesn't bottom out and touch anything. In my straight six, the probe was actually making contact with the cylinder head and causing an way higher temp to read on the gauge as it was measuring the temp of the cast iron vs the circulating coolant. I used a brass bushing to give it some clearance and she shows 180* all day long now. |
