Thinking of parting or selling my truck...need opinions...
Well folks, my grandpa recently gave me his 68 F100 SWB. I can't have three vehicles around here, in a few weeks I won't have a job, and I have no money. The F100 is still in Tennessee, and grandpa has had many offers on the truck. But I can't sell it, so I might go ahead and get rid of my Stepside.
A little about my truck: 68 SWB C10 Stepside. I haven't found any rust at all on the bed anywhere. 3.73 open rear, coil springs No rust through on the cab, other than one little spot under the windshield by the A-Pillar (easy fix) Floors are great, with 2 very small holes on the passenger side, about 1/2" wide, by 4" long. Kick panel bottoms are rusty, again, easy fix. Doors have no rust through, but have patches welded in by the previous owner that need working to be smooth. Front fenders are good, one tiny hole in the top of the drivers fender, and both right and left "cups" need replaced, as they're full of bondo. Hood is perfect, has the chrome front trim on it. Grille is also in great shape, a few tiny rock dings here and there. (it's the bright trim) Right fender eyebrow needs replaced. Chrome front bumper is in great shape, painted rear bumper needs stripped and painted. Engine is virtually new, 406 SBC, 4 bolt main, completely rebuilt a few hundred miles ago, runs perfect. Trans needs rebuilt, TH350 Drum brakes all the way around, need replaced. Now, my list of new and used parts: 4" rear drop springs 2 1/2" front drop spindles 6 lug front disc brake conversion kit Cab weatherstripping TCI Master trans rebuild kit Summit 2200 RPM stall converter Summit cam (can't remember the specs, I think it's .488/.488 lift) Headers (used, but in great shape) Power steering box (used) Power brake booster (used) I'm probably forgetting things....but at any rate, should I get rid of it, and also, what would I expect to get if I sold it outright, and what could I get parting it? Thanks guys and gals....

I voted to keep it whole. Some days it seems everyone I talk to has one that's being parted and I've seen a whole lot of completely parted hulls down here in the south.

Any particular reason why you won't sell the Ford? Seems to be the easiest route to go. There have already been offers and its money in the pocket without having to lift a finger.

The F100 holds a lot of sentimental value. It's the first 3-on-the-tree I ever drove, and also what I learned to drive in, not to mention it's grandpa's truck. I hate to even think about getting rid of my stepside, but it might be my only option.
Thanks folks.

Truth be known Chris, grandpa thinks I should sell it and use the money for my stepside. I just don't know....I'm torn at the moment. I think I'll go use my anti-stress kit now.....

TJ, since you have your grandfather's blessing... keep what ever truck you actually want.
Short steps in that condition are kinda hard to find...esp in your area. |

Yeah, I agree Andy. I'd be hard pressed to find another swb step in the condition mine's in, in this area. Maybe I'll put a few hundred in the F100, get it back here, and sell it up here, since it's in pretty good shape....I'll have a long talk with grandpa, and see what he thinks is best.

keep 'em both but just part out some of the chevy leaving you the "hull" to fix up again when times are better...I don't know if that sounds sane or not but I suppose it could be done, right?

heck, get the chevy running a bit better, rebuild the front end, then sell the buick.
You know I dig the f-100 as much as I do the C/10. |

The only reason I can't justify driving either truck is because of fuel mileage. I pull down 21 MPG city/highway combo driving, and between 27-28 MPG on the interstate with the roadmaster.....
And I don't feel it.....gotta love big cars
