Re: How much time to install these parts?
That's about what I thought. A local hot rod shop around here (DFW) said 100 hrs/$10,000. I almost crapped my pants!

I'm guessing they quoted it high on purpose because they didn't have the resources to take something like that on, or they quoted it worst case scenario to account for the hiccups that show up along the way. Did they give you an itemized list on what the quote entailed or was it a verbal quote? |

That sounds like we don't want the job price but we will take it for the right amount of money.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
My guess is they are over estimating hours as they know they will run into problems but I think they are way over. 50 might be more realistic for a shop... or they really don't want to do it.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
to be fair I believe that it also needs a little explanation as to the details which are being installed and what has to be done.
- under bed fuel tank just a regular tank or on with interior pump and where and how is the filler to be installed - automatic shifter for an orig p/glide or one of the newer trans - two piece drive shaft does it have a 1 piece d/shaft now or is it just modifying and existing 2 piece - install two seats depends on the seats and what has to be done to install and does this include any floor work and or removing an old fuel tank - wire engine bay is it rewiring a stand 230, 292 , 283 or a new LS6 engine and installing computer setup( which will mean under dash also, transmission and fuel system I am not defending any one but it sound a little ambiguous to me to quote without specifics Appreciate ya'lls input. ron |

Re: How much time to install these parts?
$100.00 an hour is about right .
As mentioned more detail is needed. Chances are the shop just gave you a generic quote. Have you tried other shops in your area? Try taking pictures of what you have and walking into the shop so they can get a better idea of what you need or are looking to get done. Can you do any of the work your self? A basic seat install is fairly straight forward. The drive shaft and shifter a bit more involved. And an engine bay re wire can go either way, depending on what you want or need done

Re: How much time to install these parts?
It could take anywhere from a couple of days to years. Depends on your skills/knowledge and how fast you can work.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
I could do it in a couple days if I had a place to do it. At the moment I'm staying at a motel and dont have access to things a regular shop does. I figured if I could do it, an experienced shop should be Able to do it in the same amount of time or less.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
Not that unreasonable because a shop has to make money but IMO if you have to pay someone to do this kind of work you are much better off buying a completed truck. I have heard stories of people spending $100000 or more to have their vehicle done.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
Like I mentioned in a previous post, due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm living at a place that prohibits me working on the truck. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been asking about this.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
If possible, with everything and anything you should get 3 written estimates from 3 well established businesses.

Re: How much time to install these parts?
You're either a checkbook hot-rodder, or you do you own work. If you are the former, you better have enough money to not worry about the bills. Tools are cheaper than paying labour rates ;-)

I respectfully disagree, some just don't have the space, some don't have the tools and some don't have the knowledge and some of those groups know what they can and can't do so they decide what the line is for them. I would love to be able to do ALL of my upgrades...but I know my limitations, skill, time and tool. There is no shame in writing a check for quality work of another, most of us wouldn't have a job if that wasn't the case.
