Finally made it here

I have been talking with the family for several months and finally was able to make a deal. The father bought the truck from a friend that worked for the railroad which is where the truck was since new. They have owned the truck approx. 45 to 50 years (she couldn't remember for sure) . And after the father passed away they decided to down size and let it go. Has some rust but in my opinion nothing too serious. It runs and drives

Not sure what my plans are for it yet just glad to have it here...
Really like the last picture

I could not figure out why your burb looked taller than the new truck till I saw the last picture. Your garage looks good with that pair in it.

I love that last pic too! What more could one ask for? Out of curiosity (or pure nosiness, whatever), which Railroad owned it?

Re: Finally made it here

Cool truck!! Glad it made it. In one of your other post you said that this was a Stageway Conversion. From what I can see in the pictures you have posted what I call the Woodpecker head or the raised part of the cab roof is in the center of the cab. All the Stageway Conversions that I have seen including my own, the Woodpecker head is further back like a regular single cab. Please post more pictures from all the way around (front, back, sides and inside) the truck.

66 Gilbert
as you can tell I am not very knowledgeable about these crew cabs
When I started talking to the family about it I talked to a few guys that have some experience with them and from they could tell it was a Stageway. I will take a few more pictures and post a few more.
65chevysub,, They told me it was bought from a family friend that bought it from the railroad where he worked. It was green and yellow and that they had the green changed to the orange on top..

What other companies did the 4 door conversions?
The "step up" section of the roof is in the same place above drivers doors just as it would be on a regular cab

Re: Finally made it here

That's a beauty!

I'll be honest, if it were in my stable, I would restore it just like original.
It's pretty rare being a crew cab, and being factory 4x4 makes it more unique!

I believe Armbruster had two companies, there was a third also. Armbruster made Stageway in Ft Smith Arkansas, there was one on the West coast and then one in Indiana( I think, also owned by Armbruster)

Re: Finally made it here

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to buy it
I didn't know for sure the family was going to let it go and since it was about 1600 miles from me I was buying sight unseen just a few pictures
It was never posted for sale and was kept in a barn in North Dakota.
I feel lucky I was able to get it and just not sure what I want to do with it yet.

I am curious which company did the conversion(doesn't really matter) but like to know the history. It was a railroad truck and the same family has owned it about 45 years or so

Re: Finally made it here

Unless there is documentation from the coach company or the emblem on the rear of the cab, there is no way to tell. Chevrolet doesn't have any numbers or documentation on crew cabs, they were sold as work trucks no matter what size they were.

Re: Finally made it here

Running/driving/factory 4x4...

I would say to the right buyer...$7-10k but agin, you have to find the right buyer.
I would love to buy one...idk if I could though. I'll inherit dad's when that comes, but I'd like a stocker!

Re: Finally made it here

Thought 66Gilbert might be onto something since the "raised" area on the cab is close to the middle above drivers door opening like would be on a regular cab and some are at the rear like a stock cab

I think your Crew Cab may have been made by the Orville Metal Specialty Company? Need to see a good side shot of your truck to compare to this truck.

Re: Finally made it here

Yeah I would prefer a stock original but me finding one and that I can swing the funds to buy would be really tough
Feel pretty pleased I was able to even find one and now own one myself
along with the suburban
