Re: 68 gas tank remove (help
I just removed mine a couple weeks ago .1972 if the seat is removed and all the holding clamps are already removed I just sprayed some WD-40 on the inside of the rubber and the outside of the rubber grommet with the fuel cap removed gave the tank a few pulls from the inside and she slowly came out. Now I can't give the damn thing away.

Re: 68 gas tank remove (help
There is a locking ring on the fuel sender unit that you have to rotate counter clockwise to remove.
Use a brass or aluminum rod and a rubber mallet t tap the tabs around... Dont use steel rod or hammer as you may generate a spark...not good idea with gas vapors around. Then lift the locking ring out and the fuel sender unit. If you are replacing the tank, you should replace the rubber gasket in the truck cab where the fill neck pokes thru. It will leak water into the cab if you dont replace it. Make sure you use a new rubber O ring on the fuel sender unit... |

Re: 68 gas tank remove (help
special tool available but some thought and enginuity will get it done.
WD 40 helps too. I used chassis grease on the old o ring when I went to reinstall it and it went back together very easily |
