Plasti-dip my '72 C-20?
Hi y'all,
Has anyone recently plasti-dip painted their truck? I am thinking of doing it to my '72 C-20. Any tips/comments appreciated.

Re: Plasti-dip my '72 C-20?
I just did my D ring/clevis mounts and my steel hawse. I wanted to see what they looked like white. Hated them in white: so I peeled off the plasi wrap stuff. It peeled off easily back to normal. I think its great to test colors on parts, fun too. Glad I didn't hassle prepping and painting only to hate the results. This stuff has a place for me. I saw a wild looking car the other day... each to his own... I'm an old fuddy duddy thought... I guess!
Test white with wrap paint... Peeled back in black..

I forgot the tip. Coat thick like they say. the parts that were a bit hard to peel is where the wrap coating was thinly applied, and tore. Still came off the paint nicely just a few more little scraps of wrap to peel.

Re: Plasti-dip my '72 C-20?
I plastidipped my truck earlier this year. I spent quite a bit of time body working everything (first time). Before dipping, I topped everything off with epoxy primer and wetsanded the entire body using 1000 grit.
I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out. I have two little boys that I share my garage with and it has already taken a beating in the few months since I finished dipping. I'm happy enough that I will definitely do it again and I already bought everything I need to dip my wife's daily driver. This was my first time for body work and the first time "painting" a vehicle, so I'm not sure I can provide much in the way of useful tips. Watch as many of the dyc videos as you can, join the Facebook page (and vote for my truck because it's up for dip of the month!) and ask questions. |
