Here's a view of the staging area for Chevy V6 and V8 truck engines from the 1970 files of Flint Assembly. These engines have just arrived from the engine plant and are waiting to be added to the conveyor system that will take them onto the final assembly line.

It is interesting to notice the difference in the amount of paint on the bell housings. Those guys that build factory correct restorations look at that stuff.

Negative; still takes about the same number of people to do that area (maybe one less neck tie and two less blue collars).

Wish I had a dollar for every time I walked past there.

Re: Picture of Flint Assembly In 1970(Chevy Engines Staged)

Keith, correct me if I am wrong, but I recall that the engine plant was close to the assembly plant, just down the road a bit on Van Slyke Road. The engines were loaded on tractor trailers and driven the short distance to the assembly plant. The story I heard was that the cost of installing a conveyor system was more than just trucking them over there. I spent a little time in the assembly plant in 78-79 while taking some grad school courses there.

That even predates Keith Seymour or me! I hadn't even learned to drive. Oh well, I don't have to look for my 250 in there...

That's cool!

Small blocks to the left, big blocks to the right.

I bet the guy to the right with the tats woulda wore a different shirt to work that day if he knew we were gonna be looking at this pic 50 years later. Ha

"Honey, could you please stop washing my t-shirts on hot? The guys at the plant are laughing at my vacuum packed look."
