Door shell difference?
I notice suppliers list 73-76, and 77-87 door shells. Aside from the interior panel, and hardware they all look the same to me. So according to these suppliers I can stick a 77-80 door panel on an 81-87 shell, and vice versa. Why cant you interchange these parts with the 73-76 doors? Thanks.

Re: Door shell difference?
The window regulator is different as well. They were redesigned in 77 to accommodate power windows. FYI, the Blazer and front doors on the Suburbans up to 91 are the same as the trucks.

Re: Door shell difference?
73-76 doors have a bit different internals and the metal stamping on the interior side of the door is different. It is made for the smaller door panel and the metal is "raised" around the panel. Pretty sure the vent window assembly is different as well, but I don't know if those will easily swap between the 2 styles.

Re: Door shell difference?
Thanks, I have always wondered about this. Do the same rules apply for the rear doors on crew cabs, and Suburbans?

Re: Door shell difference?
There are billions of rust free square doors in southern scrapyards, and I'd buy used. Aftermarket parts are the last resort. I'd simply do a search and look at pics to see if an 89-91 part is right. Blazers, subs, and probably crews changed in 92. A part search is a good way to think for yourself, rather than trust the opinions of others.
Anyone want me to start a business shipping rust-free doors/hoods/fenders/botlton parts for squares? Last edited by franken; 09-16-2017 at 10:04 PM. |

Re: Door shell difference?
So if you swap out the whole door, interior panels included, you are good to go?

Re: Door shell difference?
Yes, but it would probaly look out of place, unless you changed the dash pad and guage bezel too. If you need doors for a pre 77 truck, you can weld the interior skin of 73-76 do on to the shell of a 77-87 door shell (or 73-91, with burbs blazers, and crew cabs.) So you can still use the early door panels. 73-87 cabs are all the the same, so if you do not care about cosmetics, doors from all years should interchange with no problems.
