Question About Factory A/C System ??

I know that on many cars the defroster circuit was tied into the A/C system so that when the lever was placed in "defrost" the compressor kicked on and allowed for the extra dehumidification by virtue of the warm air passing thru the evaporator and closing off the fresh air blend door. Is the factory system the same on our trucks?
Thanx!
