What's missing here?

I'm in the process of installing an aftermarket steering wheel in my '70 C-10. There is a small tab on the backside of the horn contact, but it doesn't touch anything, just hovers over the pin of the turn signal cancel cam which is under the steering hub.



Is there supposed to be some sort of spring here?

I think there is a piece that goes on first, then the plate you're holding. The tab on the plate fits in a notch on the missing piece & is part of the turn signal canceling mechanism. There should be a spring under the horn contact button also.

You are missing part of the turn signal cancel cam under your steering wheel hub, most likely a pin, spring and retainer

Awesome. Yes, that is what's missing. Do I have to buy a whole new turn signal cancel cam, or can I get those parts separately?

You can purchase the parts separately, but keep in mind there are at least two different types, One has an "eyelet" with a tab that twists in like a tail light bulb

and the other eyelet has a "bulge" in the center and is a press fit, you wil
have to remove your canceling cam to make sure which one is needed

Thanks for this info, it helped a lot, but now I have a deeper question.

I ordered the one speedway in the second link shown above, but instead of sending my the "bulge" version as the pic on their website shows, they sent me the one with the "eyelet" on it. (It is the correct part number as what their website shows, so I'm guessing it's just an old picture) Anyway, can I just break off the eyelet tab on this version and fit it (glue?) in my canceling cam?

I do not see why you could not just glue it as long as the glue does not get into the spring and bind things up.
Is your original little red "bulged" retainer still good? if so just use it.

That's what I was thinking too...

Of course, upon further inspection, one other thing popped up. Now I notice that the new plunger is longer than the old one. Should it be?

Unfortunately I do not have a good answer for that, as long as the plunger is able to contact the little "L" piece on the horn contact its all good,

That video helps a lot. So, just so I'm understanding things correctly, this plunger needs to remain in constant contact with the small L-shaped tab on the horn contact in the first pic I posted at the beginning of this thread, correct??
