Firewall Questions
I'm finally getting around to putting my Blazer back together after 4 1/2 years. I'm working on the firewall today, and I have a few questions:
1. The wiring coming through the firewall in the red circled area was cut off by the previous owner. The hole in the firewall looks like it was a factory hole and the grommet looks factory, but I have no idea what the wiring is. Any ideas? 2. I need to weld up the hole next to the steering column (no idea why the P.O. made it) but I also have air coming through the steering column seal. How do I get to the seal to replace it? 3. Is there supposed to be a grommet of some type around the brake actuator rod? *Whoops, I just realized I forgot to attach the picture. Here it is: Thanks for your help.

Re: Firewall Questions
1. I have 2 cabs (70 & 71) neither have that hole
2. I think you need to remove the column, the seal unscrews from the inside of the cab 3. there is a boot that goes on the brake rod Last edited by B. W.; 10-19-2017 at 10:56 PM. |

Re: Firewall Questions
Thanks, BW. I don't recall seeing that hole on other 67-72 trucks I've owned, but it looks so clean I thought it might be factory. The P.O. had a CB radio at some point, so it might have been for that. I might just end up welding it up, unless someone else recognizes it.

Re: Firewall Questions
OK, so I was ready to weld this up, and I decided to take a look on the inside. The wires go to the relay indicated by the arrow. Looking at a pic posted by VetteVet I think it's the TCS relay, so I can eliminate it anyway. I just want to be sure before I proceed. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Re: Firewall Questions
It is the old "spark knock" wiring. My 1972 GMC had it located in the same spot too.

Re: Firewall Questions
Thanks. I'll delete it and weld up the hole.
