Harmonic Balancer instalation

I am trying to install a Harmonic Balancer on a 402 in a 72 C-20. The engine is in the truck. How can I tell when it is in as far as it is going to go? Thanks.

Re: Harmonic Balancer instalation

I used a tool from Autozone to pull it on. You should know when it bottoms out. It's supposed to be torqued to 60 ft/lbs.

Good luck, Rg

Re: Harmonic Balancer instalation

Thank you. It does not seem to go all the way in. Is there a way to measure or just the "torque"?

Re: Harmonic Balancer instalation

Well, I had my old one, so I compared the depth to the crank snout to the old one. I don't recall what the measurement was. I'm thinking it was around 1"

Good luck, Rg

Rode Guy, welcome to the site. I'm the guy who told you about it.

Did you get the bolt back in the crank? If you did and you torqued it down, it should be fully seated.

Re: Harmonic Balancer instalation

Old mechanic told me to hit the crank snout with some fine Emory cloth to help with the balancer install.
