Transmission/transfer case question
Ok, I am in the planning/dreaming stage on my project as far as motor and transmission goes. My question is, will different transmissions such as a 700r or the newer overdrive hook up to my transfer case on my 72 Suburban? How about a 5 Speed manual from about a 90 model 4wd Chevy Truck? Just wanting to know so I can start looking.
Scott

to adapt either the 700r4 or a 5 spd OD tranny to the original np205, you will need a special adapter which = $, but would have good results.

Was it originally auto?
If so, you can get an adapter from AA (It's not really an adapter, it's just an output shaft that lets the 700r4 bolt to the NP205 using your original parts). That's what I did with my 'burb's 700r4 conversion. I'm not sure what it would take if it was manual, or not a NP205.

Oh, to do the output shaft route, the tranny has to be taken apart. I had the shaft put in when I had my tranny built.

I checed out AA's site and they have adapters that will take just about whatever to whatever. They had adapters to get a NV4500 transmission to hook up to your 10-spline NP205 case, and they had them to get a 700r4 to hook up to it too. Go here to download parts of their catalog:
http://www.advanceadapters.com/catalog/catalog.html This is the specific part of the catalog that I found the adapter charts in: http://www.advanceadapters.com/acrobat/gm.pdf

not sure with your three sp trans...but a 700r will will hook up to the 205 with a TH350/NP205 adapter plate...you can do 1 of 2 things...
(1) buy and install the Advanced Adapter output shaft for the 700R4($185.00), find or buy the adapter TH350/NP205 ($225.00) and it will bolt right up. (2) find or buy the adapter TH350/NP205 ($225.00), add a 2" spacer ring between the 700R4 and the adapter, cut about 1" off the output shaft of the 700R4..
