Ideas for what to stand on when working on a truck
Been scratching my head for something to stand on that won't slip while leaning over the fender of a truck or over the the radiator.
You guys must some have some innovative ideas. Please share. |

I bought a Topside creeper a few years ago.....money well spent...it makes working over the top much easier, especially if you have to work at the back of the engine...

I have one similar to this, love the heck out of it. Folds up nicely and is a metal traction steps. Easy to adjust and use. I use it all the time.... love it.

I bought one of these several years ago. It seems well built, is sturdy and has non-skid feet. Just bought another. They are usually under $20 with a "Super Coupon".

I've got an old, smaller step ladder with rubber feet that I use.

Re: Ideas for what to stand on when working on a truck
I have a 16-20" tall plastic tool chest/step thing. Its an old one, I can't find it online anymore. This is the closest i could find (mine looks a lot sturdier)
I'm 5'8 and can't do jack squat under the hood of my 2015 Z71 without it. I can barely reach the dipstick to check the oil without standing on something. Makes me miss my 2000 Z71 a bit more...

I have a wooden 2-step that I made out of 2x4 and 2x6 that works great.

Re: Ideas for what to stand on when working on a truck
Depends on how long you going to be there. I was replacing the intake on my driver and I pulled the front tires and wheels and let it down to where the rotors were about 1/2" off the ground.

Re: Ideas for what to stand on when working on a truck
Great point. Speaking for myself, sometimes I get locked in on one perspective (UP) when down is a better option. Especially for something you don't want scratched.
I've always used a sprinkler valve box, just because it's what's available. They work pretty well, especially the 21x15x12.

I climb in there and sit on the fender.

Done this a bunch of times!
When that doesn't cut it, I steal my wife's step stool from the kitchen! -klb

Re: Ideas for what to stand on when working on a truck
I usually use a small step stool, but have had it slip out from under me when reaching to the back of the engine compartment
