67 Camaro Build
Short back story to start the 67 Camaro build. We acquired this project car in June 2011, previous owner had had enough Camaro fun and listed it in the local online classifieds. Here’s what the car looked like in September 2007 about the time the PO purchased it. From the ad copy it sounds like it was in need of some metal work, which is exactly what the PO started with a local shop.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
After a bunch of $$$ (according to the PO during our negotiations) and the shop closing its doors the Camaro was left in mid metal repair. Here’s how it looked when we found it.

Man, she has had a lot of metal work done to her. I'm in to follow this, it's going to be sweet.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Big project right there, hopefully all the metal work is done to your satisfaction!
My buddy had 6 or 7 of these when We were kids....iirc, he built them all with his dad and then sold them off to fund his college. Good luck and great project!!

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Thanks Clyde65, what’s been done looks pretty good so one of our first moves is going to be inspecting that work again to refresh the memory. You know a good friend of mine also restored a pair of 69’s back in the day, both were big block cars and if I remember correctly it paid for (or darn close) his house that they still live in today.
Once the car got here it went to the media blaster. Only damage that we’ve found not caused by rust and earlier body work is this spot on the left rear inner structure next to the quarter window.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Nice. The less rust repair the better! Have any plans for solid sub frame mounts or sub frame connectors etc?

Re: 67 Camaro Build
I agree that would be nice! Perhaps or polyurethane (?), sub frame connectors for sure.
Hit it with the DA, bolted on some wheels and pushed it outside for some pics, looked pretty good from a few feet away. Here’s some close ups, plenty of area’s that still need attention.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Shortly after that last round of pics we tore the car back down to a shell, I’d no idea it would be a little over 5 years to get back to it.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Man, I'm so jealous. I can't leave anything bare metal for that long without doing more work.
Do you plan to race this car ot will it just be a tribute car? From the research I've done on the bushings, the polys still flex a bit. So racers recommend solid ones. I plan to auto cross mine so I think I'm going solid on it.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Oh no, don’t be jealous, best way to describe the next maneuver is stupid is as stupid does... Yes, and no, not a dedicated race car (no roll cage) but a very fun street car with some time slips in the glove box!
Here’s pics of us pulling it out of storage a few months ago, some dingus (me?) put it away without sealing it up.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Are you going to spray acid on it or a rust converter or just sand it off? It still doesn't look bad though.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
It’s not that bad and would sand off (flash rust), probably will end up sanding some areas but with it getting rear quarters, etc. It’ll probably get media blasted one more time after we’re done with all the metal repairs.
I did have a red on red 67 Camaro (327, glide, 10 bolt) back in high school for a short time. Always wanted a 67 Camaro, big block, 4-speed day two-ish type drag car. The plan has always been a tribute car to Grumpy’s Toy III. Don’t know if we’ll actually letter the car but I like everything about one of the first big block Camaro’s. Here’s some pic’s of the actual restored car owned by the Mecum’s and back in the day with Da’ Grump & George Hurst.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Thanks Ryan, banging gears is a pretty good time!
For the purists, and it’s just interesting to know how this particular Camaro was originally equipped when it left the factory, the dealer, who bought it and the delivery date (just had a B-Day). Trim tag is still in place and we have the protect-o-plate, after decoding both and verifying it’s not anything really special (nice colors) I don’t feel bad about making into something better, IMO. Re: 67 Camaro Build
Very cool! I just got a 71 RS and I've been trying to find the build sheet to verify it is an RS. I only have 1 place left to look and I hope it's there. Other wise oh well. It's just a 307/PG car so it wouldn't be worth what a big block car would be. Haha

Just found that you'd started this thread. I'll be following. I drove a '69 Camaro my Sr. year and through college. Would love to get another one. For now I'll have to live vicariously through your build.

Using a plumb bob and making marks on the floor the subframe has passed our simple squareness test. Pulled the old body mounts and found that the left rear mount is going to need some attention, but the rest are in really great shape.

Thanks ajviper! Time to say good bye to the wood cart its done its job and it’s just way to wobbly so, up, up and away! Using the same plumb bob technique and making marks on the floor the shell also passed the high-tech squareness test. While doing this and looking closely at all the alignment holes (firewall & frame rails) they are all original and mounted to original inner panels which have not been removed by any previous work.
