92-93 Chev Grille
The grille on my 93 burb has bad peeling chrome. What should I expect to pay for a used replacement??? Or new??? Or can it be fixed? Thanks
SORRY meant to post this on the message board, but it looks like it ended up on the parts board.

Dan,
I just bought a new aftermarket grille yesterday for 160. It is tiawanese, but fit fairly well. The thing you will notice is that the bowtie emblem isn't recessed into the grille like the old one. I think this is because the bowtie shape is licensed by Chevy. I found one as cheap as 88, but it was from Certifit, who I've heard people have problems with the fit on them. Mine was from some company in AZ, although they didn't make them there. To attach the painted part that lives just above the bumper, I'd suggest using 1/4 x 1/2" stove bolts with nylock nuts on the two end ones instead of the "push in" rivet thingys they had. You can remove the rivet thingys with a pair of side cutters to pull them up (but don't cut through!). It's pretty easy to replace, just remove all the screws, pull out on the top of the grille and remove it. Start the bottom first when you are putting it back together.

Wow, thanks 71gmc...
What was wrong with your old grille? Was the chrome peeling off and do these new repro grilles have the same problem?

My old grille teamed up with my headlight, bumper, and side marker to try to beat up a fire hydrant while I was sliding on some ice in the parking lot on my way to work Friday morning.
The fire hydrant won... My old grille was losing a little chrome, but the rest of the truck is shedding the silver paint like mad anyway. I don't know how well the chrome will hold up on the repro. Only time will tell.
