Matching gauge cluster texture on glove box

I’ve seen a few post on this but not quite what I was looking for. Most used a texture or wrinkled paint and I worried about consistency and durability. I did a lot of google searching and came across a leather textured vinyl. Figured for under $10 it was worth a shot. I first made a template out of paper and transferred it to the viny. I used a mix of dish soap and water to spray prior to applying to avoid sticking and bubbling of the vinyl. Once aligned with the edges I took a credit card and used it to move the water/soap from under the vinyl. In the end it’s not a perfect match but I think it’s very close and am extremely happy with the look of the glove box with the gauge cluster now. The glove box is a new chrome counterpart one and so is the bezel around the gauges

I like it. I like to do chrome glovebox doors to match cluster. It looks how it should have been. A classy custom touch.

Wow! That is awesome! I have been wondering what to do about my GB door, its not bad, but it has a rough "wear mark" and was stressing on how to fix it. Any info on the manufacturer?

Counterpart makes the glove box door. The vinyl manufacturer I’m not sure about.

Ctener! Great idea!!! Where was the vinyl from? Any part number? Ha ha looks great! I just filled in a hole from my s10 cluster mod on my bezel but now off to the glovebox to match

Re: Matching gauge cluster texture on glove box

For '67-only the Factory painted them Crinkle Black, matching the Flat Black on the dash.
Still, nice vinyl job. Now if you could also skin your dash pad and seats and door panels with that stuff you'd be rockin'.

Re: Matching gauge cluster texture on glove box

Looks good and a lot easier than painting the wrinkle finish , I've done them before using the Harley Davidson brand black wrinkle paint that matches very good .

Re: Matching gauge cluster texture on glove box

I use the Permatex bedliner and the texture was a good match. But this is a nicer way to do it. I used to chrome glove box doors before chrome reproductions were offered. I have one with woodgrain from Cheyenne Superman I did in '91. It's now in my '72 K2500. I've painted them to match the cluster on GMCs. That chrome has to be there if you want a true match. Although, I have painted the edge of the door to match the argent on those clusters, too. That's how I did my '71 tow truck since someone had put an early bezel in

Re: Matching gauge cluster texture on glove box

Curtb1971 here on the board did this 67 three hole cluster and this 67 glovebox for me and these are the pictures he sent me last week letting me know they were done...........WOW!!!!! Curts workmanship is impeccable and detailed.
The pictures don’t do them justice no aftermarket stuff here he does the real deal...........I can’t wait for there arrival. Curt does absolutely perfect work. I first purchased the 67 seven hole cluster he had for sale here on the board and was so impressed I asked if he could do the glovebox and another cluster. Check this dudes stuff out he’s for real.
