Post Having trouble with unlocking my hubs

I seem to be having trouble unlocking my hubs on my 79 k20. My truck has a 350 goodwrench crate motor, 350 turbo transmission (th350) and a 203 transfercase. For some reason when I go to unlock the hubs, I put my truck in neutral, shift my tcase in neutral and get out and unlock the hubs. When I get back back inside the truck I shift the transfercase into H range and shift the column into drive but it doesn't go into drive. Maybe I'm not understand all the way about the hubs or the 203 tcase . Is it ok if I just keep the hubs locked in all the time? Will it cause damage? Thanks for the info.

Re: Having trouble with unlocking my hubs

the 203 transfercase is a full time transfercase. if i remember correctly that thing kinda works like a differential and puts all the power to the wherever has the least amount of traction. so when you unlock the front axle its sending all the power to the front front driveshaft.

its not going to hurt anything to leave them locked all the time, probably just wear your tires out a little quicker
