Potential Longhorn purchase
Going to look at another longhorn this weekend only about an hour from me. One owner, seems to be all complete, runs and drives and stops but needs the usual tune and such. Has rust in the rockers and cab corners, says none in the floorboard but I will go look tomorrow. I have one now that is also a 71 but its a pretty base pickup but has a big block and has a lot of rust. I gave 1870 for my big block pickup with dealer ac, and this one has factory air, 350, steering and brakes...what I'm trying to find out is would this green colored one be worth the same or possibly a little more? Asking price is 2500. let me know what your opinions are..I know they're hard to find, but one can still overpay pretty easy and you guys on here are experts.

Re: Potential Longhorn purchase
Tough call.
The longhorn is a unique truck...but that hasn't really rolled over into its value being unique, so it is a bit of an acquired taste. This is probably because of its size and weight and limitations that places on it being easily customized to be a fun driver. As for value....$2500 is a bit high in my books given the amount of rust that is showing in those pics. If that rust was less...I would see it was good value. Right now, without $5-$10K in bodywork (at least?)...it isn't stretching much beyond a rough driver or a parts truck. It has some reasonable options but this doesn't offset the rust in terms of value. Again....the 3 most important things that relate to classic truck value for me are body condition (lack of rust), body condition....and body condition. After that....you start gaining value through the model and options. So back to your question....as a parts truck it probably is certainly worth $800-$1000.....as a possible rough driver...maybe $1500-$1800. After that I'm out of gas and interest...with that much bodywork waiting for me. Just my initial two bits here. All good Coley

Re: Potential Longhorn purchase
Looks like a well optioned truck, but the rust would be the killer for me. Rust repair can add up quickly. Even if you're talented enough to do it all yourself, the time involved would be significant.

Imho that truck is way too rough to be asking 2500,1500 tops and that’s if you’re really having a hard time finding one.

And I don’t do any body work, I’m pretty helpless when it comes to that. I’m sure I could get a decent amount Parting it but I’d hate to disassemble something that is thisconokete that maybe someone with better know he and rust repair can work with. I’ll still go look at it of course, just got a better idea of a market or value

Re: Potential Longhorn purchase
If you’re buying it for yourself because you want a longhorn and they are hard to find with this many options, go for it.
If you’re buying to flip or part out it’s overpriced.

Re: Potential Longhorn purchase
Went to look at it, not a bad pickup, runs like a top. Needs supports, inner and outer rockers exhaust, low kick panels. Very original, he came down to 2,000, I offered 1500 but he didn’t take it. Never hurts to look at them! Thanks for the help
