Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

MY 71's not a Super but I would think center caps and trim rings? I was missing the trim rings. Like your's not listed on the spid. Wait till Joe gets back, he probably knows the correct answer.

'67-'72 trucks never had rally wheels from the factory....

Chevyland I believe full wheel covers were standard on supers. Some had chrome hubcaps but it would be called out on the spid if it was something different

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Eric, I believe PO3 bright caps were standard and PO1 wheel covers were optional. Below excerpt from the 71 Super introduction brochure.
EDIT: and that marries up with what I've seen on Super SPIDs - the only RPO related to "wheel coverings" one should see on a 1/2 ton Super is a PO1, as that was the only step up from standard equip that was left.

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Thanks jocko and others

I guess that is what I was trying to find out.

I’ve got 1/2 ton Supers with both
‘Wheel covers’
‘Full wheel covers’
Called out
And, Also nothing called out at all about hubcaps

So we can assume po3’s (chrome hubcaps)would be called out if white were standard
And since we don’t ever see that, chrome was standard on supers, when nothing is called out
And the only option would be po1 (full wheel covers)

I Already have the white on white truck
Got me to wondering, what it came with

Just bought nice white hubcaps
White on White is already to much
Might as well really over do it with white wheels and caps
I was kind of hoping white caps were stock
I’ll try it anyway
If it’s to much, I’ll use chrome caps instead

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Yep, chrome hubcaps were standard only on Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super. Wheel covers were optional on all 10 series

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Thanks bruceman
There it is, in black and white

Today when I was contemplating this
I looked through jocko’s definitive Cheyenne super thread
The other stepside beside mine also didn’t order full wheel covers
On the rest of the 1/2 tons the majority had full wheel covers on the spid
I, really like correct, stock trucks
When looking at my spids there are 2 more that really only came with chrome hubcaps. One a 4x4 lwb the other a 2x4 swb
I never paid much attention, thinking supers always were supposed to have full wheel covers

I learn something everyday

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

I realize your white truck is a Super Eric, but since Cheyennes were mentioned above, thought I'd throw this in to stir the pot... For some reason, I thought Cheyenne standard equipment was white hub caps and that chrome PO3 caps and chrome PO1 wheel covers were optional (and that PO3 was standard on only the Super). But I don't know that I've ever seen a Cheyenne with base white hub caps - but, then again, I have seen PO3s on Cheyenne SPIDs - which would indicate they were an option, not standard for a Cheyenne. Maybe most folks opted to upgrade to PO3s or PO1s - seems reasonable considering they were willing to spring for the Cheyenne package. Bruce's lit above seems to say the same thing unless I'm missing something (i.e. no mention of chrome caps in the Cheyenne description). And I haven't seen PO3 listed in the Cheyenne upgrade info in the 71 or 72 sales brochures.

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

I think that info is not true to actual fact. I believe the Cheyennes came with chrome hubcaps. That has been my experience. Those dealer books have other inaccuracies related to actual fact. Such as stating that tow hooks are only available with painted bumper. If that was a fact there would have been no Cheyennes, Cheyenne Supers, or CST Blazers from factory with the hooks. We know that's not true.

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Just to add to the mix, on 3/4 ton 2wd Cheyenne, white caps were still the standard cap. Chrome ones had to be ordered. My low mile, 1 owner, 71 Cheyenne didn't have chrome caps. So I looked, and the brochure book backs this up to. Just another weird fact.

ISn’t That what this place is for?
To keep beating a dead horse!
And
Talking about our trucks,
Instead or working on them

Over and out
I’m going outside! To work on a truck

Well, at least for a moment.

Actually, we are attempting to prove that the books are right and that our assumptions are wrong.

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

Yes, some things varied from factory to factory, but not what was "optional" or "standard". Is it important? No. Is it fun to learn fact from fiction rather than explaining it away as an anomaly when we can't figure it out? Yes. That's what I think we try to do here. Well, sometimes...

What Joe outlined is one of the main reasons I've assumed the sales brochures were actually written correctly (forget the little pictures in them, they are seldom accurate and roll from year to year when possible). The way every brochure I've read is worded would lead one to believe that white caps came on Cheyennes and that PO3 (what came standard on Supers) and PO1s were optional.

Like Tim, I'd have bet anything that PO3s were standard because those or PO1s were about all I'd ever seen on Cheyennes. Having said that, I wasn't exactly checking the SPID of every Cheyenne I saw on the street back in the day either, so just because they had them doesn't mean they weren't ordered as options that most people ordered. White hub caps weren't exactly sought after, even on base models, so I'd be willing to bet that many PO3s, or even PO1s, were stuck on there later even if not ordered. Anyway, since the standard practice of only placing optional equipment on the SPID is, well, pretty well standardized - the presence of PO3 on a Cheyenne SPID would seem to make the case that white base hubcaps were standard on Cheyennes. It still seems a little out there to me - would love to see some more definitive written data one way or the other to prove or disprove it. Anyone got a 72 data book? Here are some SPIDs that would seem to make the case that PO3 was an option on Cheyennes.

Re: ?Hubcaps? On Cheyenne Super

I can accept that Cheyennes weren't supposed to come with chrome hubcaps, but I know there are exceptions to what is in print in many cases. It's like the wheel covers and Cheyenne Supers. More came with them than not it seems. I don't have SPIDs to show for all the trucks I've had or looked at. With all the talk about differences this has never come up, just upper trim, woodgrain on dash, gauges, and fancy tailgate handle.
