Starter wire closeness to headers
How close is too close for starter wires to be near the header? My wires are about 1.5-2" away from the header. My starter is about 1" away, but I am going to put fiberglass adhesive exhaust shield on it, like what they use on dirtbike to keep the pipe from melting the side panel. What y'all think?

Re: Starter wire closeness to headers
That's about how close my starter wire is, and I haven't had any problems so far. Haven't done any summer driving though...

Re: Starter wire closeness to headers
This issue seems common with headers - bigger issues with some designs - and I have fabricated a bolt-on heat shield and used insulators as noted by darrellyates. Rarely a problem (even before the modifications) with highway running, but sitting/idling in heavy traffic was another matter. But, rarely does one of mine ever get in slow/stop traffic. I won't be doing headers again - hassles not worth it.

Re: Starter wire closeness to headers
Ya, I'll use cast headers next time, but I had a perfectly good set of hedmans. This truck definitely won't be sitting in traffic, but will be driving in 120*+ AZ heat.
