Hi all. I've been trying to get my red 67 on the road for hunting season which starts monday. So monday I took it in to get "saftied" here in Manitoba. That involves a govt-type inspection that sez you vehicle must meet "these" requirements. All was cool except for 4 things: 1)upper left balljoint 2)front shox 3)4 boxbolts missing 4)the carb is leaking gas. The first 3 were easy! box bolts, shox & the balljoint are simple BUT the carb was evil. The tank is full of rust apparently & plugged the carb BIGTIME. There was 1/8" of rust/crap in the bottom of the float bowl that was holding the needle open, which flooded the carb, which caused fuel to spurt out the throttle-shaft, which is unsafe in Manitoba. SO no truck will be comming hunting with me this year. Ever tried to load a deer into your trunk? I have a big car BUT its a tough lift if he's a good sized buck. Sorry guys for the crabbing but as you know, the best laid plans always can go awry. SIGH. Anybody else out there take their truck hunting?

I take mine out daily hunting for the ladies. It does a decent job now but I'm hoping that It will be better when I get that purdy blue paint laid after this winter. BTW: don't tell my girlfriend! lol

Bet the authorities in Manitoba would be more okay with you loading bucks into your trunk, rather than ladies. haha.

Wow, the "authority" gets real involved up there. All they care about here is lights, horn, e-brake, and emissions.

Big Brother lets us do ANYTHING to our trucks here in Oregon. Right down to NO SMOG and $15 a year for lisence fee:p

Pass the buck, my friend stuck a small buck in the truck of his car. It was pretty funny. He had it setting out side the house waiting to be buthered. When some old lady driving along not paying attention rearended his parked car and caved in the trunk pretty good with the deer in it. It was a pretty good seen explaining to the com why there was blood coming our of his truck.

I've been pheasant hunting in my car with a dog once too. It wasn't that bad.

Yeah, we're fortunate in Maine, too. They'll check the vehicle over for brakes, lights, horn, good tires, ball joints, and exhaust. They don't, however, seem to give a flip about emissions. Heck, I have yet to see anyone with a sniffer up here in The County. Don't think they'll let me run cut-outs, though.

Mine hasn't been inspected since I bought it in 1977!

Just wish I had Phillip Johnson's license fees! I'm Oregon born & raised, but when I lived there it was $10 annually.

sounds like they're trying to save you from yourself , now who'd be the stupid one if you were out in a remote area and your clogged up carb spewed gas all over and burned your truck to the ground ?????

the stoopid carb only spurts gas out when its not running & of course, they check it only when its not running. I drove the truck home from flin flon (about 600 miles) & when I checked the oil I looked at the carb for leaks & it was dry. I think the dmv is more trying to get beaters off the road cause theres lots of them here. My beef is that I think they're mabe trying a little too hard to find stuff. All the stuff they found wrong was legit, just that the carb issue isnt a problem. It ran fine & started in the very cold weather & all that. I understand the law & all that, I'm just mad that no truck for hunting for me!

After I get the truck painted I too will hunt ladies too. I like ladies that like trucks!

fuel leaking is unsafe whether it does it running or not. exhaust is still damn hot when you shut the truck off and how do u know it isnt leaking while your driving. it would evaporate most likely still doesnt mean it could cause a fire

Mr. Johnson please don't rub it in. We barely live more than an hour apart, and my wife's '63 costs over $50.00 a year. I hope The Govonater lowers the fees before my '98 comes due.
