The Burb a long time coming
...well the time has come.
I have owned her since '96, she is on the 3rd motor 4 transmission 3rd Rearend... Was jacked up in 2000 while I drove other things that used less gas and had a/c But in '01 when I made the decision I was gonna move on with, vehicle I chose was her. Put a new battery and filled her with fluids and put the ol 8 lug steel wagon wheels on and she cranked right up ... needed a lil tune on the edlebrock, but when didn't it. Drove it another 80K+... Using the reg. info and with some help the mechanic on 1 of the 3 motors ... we figured the truck had over 480K on her. Some of you may even remember I put her up for sale some time ago, minus the motor/tranny, because I just don't have the REAL time it takes to do it right, so it was sitting. ... but never did sell her So after talking with the wife an her telling me she knew how much I loved the truck and all the work I had put into her over the years We decided to give her a new life ... the way I wanted it. And this will be her story

Re: The Burb a long time coming
She was rough after years of use and abuse ... a lot of 5 hour trips uphill one way to go camping ... kids loved it

Re: The Burb a long time coming
Scheduled Red to come pick her up, hadn't run in 3 months or so ...
So we coasted her on out to the street and loader her up on a trailer

Re: The Burb a long time coming
So I made some inquires and did ALOT of research, about a years worth, and I found someone I felt could handle this task and would want to see and be apart of this incredible project.
His name is Blake and he owns Mo Muscle Cars in Conroe, TX http://www.momusclecars.com/ and this is where this transformation will happen.

Re: The Burb a long time coming
The frame is a loss, it maybe could be fixed but knowing the plans for this truck it would only get me in trouble in the end, not the most ridged designed frame.
So once again some research is being done, you would think after 47 years someone would be have a frame for these great beast ... but once again when they refer to C10 frame they mean truck so it narrows the search some and adds an increased chance to do what I want with her. So I sent out an email to some noted frame builders and was surprised to see how few builders have the specs to do a 1971 suburban frame, though only slightly different than the truck frame only got a response from a small handful

Re: The Burb a long time coming
Cool.
And we are practically neighbors. There's a few other local Suburban guys so we'll have to plan a get together one day. It looks like your Sub and my Sub are in the same condition of disrepair. I need to get back on the metal work. How's the hatch? I have too many hours de-rusting and repairing mine. Is the d-door aftermarket? I've heard they are not the best fitting.

Re: The Burb a long time coming
... Need to make the call to Justin @ Scotts Hotrod and Chassis to get the final paperwork done so they can get started on building it.
Was happy to find someone to do what I want and can see my ideas.

Re: The Burb a long time coming
Thanks ... was only wanting some subtle changes externally ... that only aficionados like us would say, "Hey Wait a Minute"
Gas filler relocation Shaved Aerial Shave the third door handle to give the illusion of a 2 door having the sides match. Figured it would be better than adding a handle to the drivers side rear, maybe not as funny ... but better aesthetically Then the final touch will be the ghost racing stripes painted over Tungsten Gray ... similar to the ones on my vet but reversing the color scheme

Re: The Burb a long time coming
Wow looks great. I'm planning on putting mine on the rotisserie soon and will have to copy the bracing. Any shots of how the rotisserie arms attach to the shell? Also are they welding in the patches?
