Tell me everything you know about camper tops
.....please tell me the story behind them, I mean the cab high tops, not the full camper modules.
Did the general offer these?? I have a "see instruction manual for camper instructions" or something label on the back of my glove box door Were these available for steppers??? Pics anyone? Marck |

I do not believe GM offered "toppers" for our trucks, they might have offered "campers" (like the ones you live in)...but I am not 100% sure. I do know aftermarket companies made toppers for stepside trucks, they look just like the fleetsides, only narrower.
Hopefully Ken (kiilew) or Joe (ELGracho) will see this post, they have a TON of knowledge on our trucks. If they don't reply, send either a PM. -Jeff |

The only "camper" I know of that was direct from GM was the Blazer Chalet. I'm sure it was built and installed by a GM authorized outfitter, but I don't know who.
I think the instructions you are referring to are there for information only....

The only camper's offered by the factory that i know of were the chalet for the K5...and then the 73 up 1 ton full camper conversions...they came as a cab chassis...454's...bucket seats....and a full cab camper...see the recreation brochures from 73 to abot 77 to see what i am talking about....then the was the 4wheel campers that were pop tops offered by the same co.....K5 campers are not produced by them anymore....

Well looks like its pretty much covered. I don't know of any more camper options. Two notes though:
1) Look at www.blazerchalet.com Excellent site, and they have many brochures online. 2) 4wheel pop up camper is still in business in California. Even though they don't make K5 campers any more, they can make replacement parts. My cousin had one on a Scout and they custom made him new spring assembly that helps the top pop up. They did an excellent job. If you get a chance to get one of those campers for either a K5 or a pickup, they are excellent quality.
