18" Wheels: Tire sizes

I've had a set of 18x8/9.5 Ridlers for a few years with 235/55-18 on the front and 255/55-18s on the rear. The fronts at about shot and I've currently got them on my '72 driver. I'm planning on putting a set of 20s on it later this year and the 18s back on my '67 project to roll around the garage in.

I'm finding there is not a whole lot of 18" tires in the 27-29" tall range which I'd like to have since I have a 4.11 rear end. The 255/55s are about 29" tall. A guy at one of the local tire shops has a set of Michelins in 235/60 and 265/60 I can get real reasonable that could get me by until the budget allows for new tires/wheel. The fronts would be about 29.5" tall and rears 30.5" tall.

Anybody running either one of these tires? I'm curious if they would be too tall and look kind of goofy. Truck is getting lower about 4" in the front and 5" in the rear here real soon.

Current setup:

Anybody want to post up pics of your 18s and tire sizes?

this does not make since to me , you are going to run a 60 series tire all the way around and that means that the sidewall height should be same , just a wider tire in the back

Re: 18" Wheels: Tire sizes

I am running 265/50/18 all around on 18x9's. You are right that there are not a lot of tires in this range. I am possible thinking of going to a slightly shorter tire in the future. Maybe a 45 series tire.

Truck looks good. If I go shorter I probably need to change the rear gear.

Re: 18" Wheels: Tire sizes

I bought a set of off brand (CHEAP) 255/55r/18's for the Blazer. 18"x 9" Torque Thrust all the way around. It sits almost level and they fill up the openings pretty well. No rub. So far I'm pleased with them. They're "V" rated and seem to be pretty sticky... wrung my driveshaft off first time I dumped the clutch.

The 60 is 60% percent of the width of the tire so a 265/60 would be taller than a 245/60.

Re: 18" Wheels: Tire sizes

255/45/18 front and 295/45/18 in rear is a good combo.

I agree but those rear tires are too expensive to put on a cheap set of Ridlers

Re: 18" Wheels: Tire sizes

I bought these a few years back and had a real hard time finding sizes I liked. These are Toyo Proxy ST2 if I remember correct.

Re: 18" Wheels: Tire sizes

I bought Master Craft tires, 285-60R-18 for the rear and 265-60R-18 for the front. I only lowered the rear 2" and the front 2 1/2 in the front. This picture is after I removed engine and transmission for paint and rebuild. I did not see any rubbing issues with the front or rear. The wheels are Ridler 18X8 front and rear.Name: IMG_0592.jpg
