Need some advice on 1" drop coils..and Belltech spindles
My 83 has 2.5" western spindles with one full coil cut, its about a 4.5-5" drop over stock. I'm fairly happy with the ride quality, running 15x8 rallys with 225/70 tires.
I have a 87 GMC, I'm fixing to drop , I have 3" Belltech spindles ordered. I want the front to be no lower than about 4" ... Anybody have any suggestions on 1" drop coils that you have actually used used and gotten a true 1" drop out of? And will the Belltech give me a true 3" drop? I am tempted just to do the spindles, but am afraid it may be a little high in the front with a flip in the rear. I'm not against cutting the factory coils... but don't want to get more than 1" or so spring drop.

Here's one I did with a 3" spindle and a new set of big block springs with 1 round removed. It was about a 4" drop in the front and 5" in the rear with a flip kit.

Here's a pic of the same setup on another truck I had with a 4/5 drop.

So you recommend the new big block springs cut over drop coils?

Re: Need some advice on 1" drop coils..and Belltech spindles
I've never used a 1" drop spring but I have used 2-3" springs and don't care for the soft ride. I prefer my trucks a little stiffer with less "float". You get an increased spring rate when you cut factory springs.

Combine that with some KYB shocks and I think you'll be happy with the ride.

Re: Need some advice on 1" drop coils..and Belltech spindles
I used your exact setup, with the big block coils cut and KYBs, the ride is great! a lot better than my 83 with the "factory" coils cut! Thanks for the advice!

Glad to help. That's a great combo for a mild drop and good ride. Post some pics.

ULTRAHD4ME, thanks for sharing your recipe. Beautiful trucks. RWJJR, your stepper looks good. Thanks for the feedback on the set up. I got belltech spindles to put on, but mine's a long bed so I'm not going to go as low. To my eye, the long beds need to keep a little elevation to keep the proportions right to the wheels. I like how yours came out.

Re: Need some advice on 1" drop coils..and Belltech spindles
I just ordered a set of Moog 6454 springs. Hope those are the right ones. What's a good tire combo to run with the 4/6 drop? I have a pair of 235/60r15 to put on the front. I would like to run a 275 on the back, but I don't have wide enough wheels.
