What transfer in 3/4 ton 4x4????

Hey all,
What transfer case did Chevy use in the 73-87 Chevy 3/4 Ton pickups? I'm not sure of the exact year, but I think it is a late 70s.

Late 70's would depend on the tranny. A 4 speed would have had an NP205 cast iron gear drive part time t-case behind it and an auto tranny would have had a NP203 cast iron chain drive fulltime case. There may be exceptions to this but I believe this is the general rule. Also, I think all 1980 models, regardless of tranny, had NP205 cases. Starting around 81 or 82 a 3/4 ton could have had either a NP205 or NP208 aluminum chain drive part time case.

Interesting.
This truck has a 454/4 sp/???transfer.
I can get the truck for about $400-$450. I don't know what the body looks like as the truck is about 30 miles from me.
I think I could ebay this thing out and make a little money.

Unless it's been changed, it will be an NP205 t-case--the good one!! You shouldn't have any problem making money back out of the deal but remember that shipping heavy stuff costs $$$.

unfortunately the 4-speed np205's arent all THAT desireable. it will be a 10 spline unit which are pretty common. I have a few of them in storage and I dont know anyone that I could give them to. They will however accept a 27 or 32 spline input gear if you have them.. its all about the spline count and the tranny adapter when it comes to $$$

Thanks Mike,
That is good info to know. I think I can get most of my money back out of the 454 alone. The truck is supposed to have a 4" lift on it too. I haven't looked at it yet, but I might this weekend. For $400, I'm not expecting much.

i didnt mean to wizz in your cheerios or anything, just lookin out. Between me and a couple buddies, we'll buy ANY 3/4ton 4x4 for parts if the price is right.. the front and rear axles alone are worth the price, even if it is a 10-bolt front end.... the fact that it has a bbc and A trans & transfer case is a huge plus. Buy it!

Nope. Didn't take it to mean you were wizzing in my cheerios. I don't like cheerios anyway

In fact, that kind of info is exactly what I was looking for.

I need to find time to go look at it now.
