68 C40 Food Truck Build
Ok guys.. First post of what I'm sure is going to be LOTS so let me start out by saying I'm glad this site is here and I want to make sure I will be starting this in the correct forum. Here is a brief summary of what will be going on.
I will be taking my Brothers (mine now) 68 C40 and turing it into a Wood Fired Pizza Truck. There is currently no other truck like this and honestly without some serious help and input from this group there will probably never be. I'm going to build a 12x8' box ( like a box truck) on the bed starting from the cab back then outside the box the wood fired oven will sit on the last 5 or 6' of the bed with the mouth being accessable from inside the box. If I can figure it out I will post a pick I found of a truck in Canada that shows the oven/box idea. If I'm in the correct place my posts will be focused on the mechanical components of the base truck in order to be respectful of the form as this is not a food truck build forum. If that's ok?. I will stop here for now and await some responses as to if I'm in the correct forum. I will try to add a picture. If anyone is interested (this is not a ploy for business/advertising just to show what we do) I currently have an oven mounted on a tandem axle open trailer building the truck is the next step. You can veiw my IG page at milansmarket. Again this is not about getting likes it's just to let you all see what up. I'm here strickly to get help and hopfully help others that will have similar issues with their C40. Thanks. |

Here is the box/oven example. It's just to illustrate placement the box is going to be completely different.

I'll take an extra large with Canadian bacon and mushrooms and onions. Is it extra to you deliver to Texas?

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Nice.. not yet. We are heavily tapped into the craft beer movement and this truck will be set up to do up to 3 day events throuout the state and maybe surrounded states. I also have a 68 travel trailer not sure if the name but it will be pulled behind for support. I'd love to come to Texas just not in the summer we have enough heat if our own here.. yesterday's high 104 today 102..right now we work out of a 10x10 canopy..you can see why an enclosed box is my sole focus in life right now.

Nice rig in the photo. Great way to re-purpose a shipping container.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
I make a pizza we call "The fig and pig" it's homemade fig jam, thick bacon, goat cheese, fresh garlic, black pepper and sea salt. For the breakfast crowd we offer a fresh egg cooked right on the pizza. It's like have toast with bacon and jam dipped in a sunny side up egg. The name actually came from the first customer that had it and I loved it so much it's perfect. Not sure if it's appropriate to post pictures of food on here but I've got lots..

Cool idea, but I'm wondering how you will serve it from so high up.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Thanks guys. I'm going to flush the brake system today. On the way back from replacing the windshield the brakes kinda um stop working so good. It was a nice scare I didn't hurt anyone or anything but I spilled my coffee and that really pissed me off... Lol sorry for the delay but I'm a tiny business just the wife and kids and we had 2 events this weekend. @special k on the curb side if the truck 2" back from the cab I'm going to creat a service well where the customer will pay and receive their orders. This will be cut into the bed all the way to the frame and 4' wide. So as you walk up to order they will be just about at eye level with you. The helper up top at bed height will pass the product down to those in the well and then on to the customer. Similar in concept to the snap on trucks with the roll up doors on the curbside only it will be a glass window. Kinda like the photo.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Ok here come the questions. In trying to bleed the brakes I am unable to get fluid to the driver side rear bleeder valve. Please excuse my terminology if I refer to something wrongly. This truck has a single chamber resivor. I get fluid to the other side rear valve and if I crack the line into the hub (driver side) coming from the t on the rear end I get fluid and if I crack the line going from where the main line goes in ( directly above it about an inch) I get fluid. It's flowing through the line that goes from the bottom of the hub to the top but nothing is coming out if the bleeder valve. I took both lines off and nothing is clogged. It's as though it's clogged from where the line that is isolated on the hub goes into the top just below the bleeder screw/valve. God I hope this makes sense. I sprayed a little brake cleaner in there and let it sit but still nothing. Bleeder screw was off and cleaned it is clear but even with it off nothing is coming out. I have bleed brakes before many times and the fluid usually comes out very freely the other one that is getting fluid to come out is just sort of trickling steady even after the pedsl has been in the down position for a bit. This doesn't seen right but I don't know if this single chamber has anything to do with that behay or it's something else. I was reading these years are common for the (distribution valve cylinder?) To push to one side and reduce flow. I don't want to start taking stuff apart to add more variables. If pix will help let me know. Thank you.
Edit. Ok so no valve to get stuck it's just a simple T and it's clearly not plugged or I'd not be getting anything to the back right? Last edited by Unofornaio; 06-04-2018 at 04:40 PM. |

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Get new wheel cylinders anyways. Should solve your problem.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Thanks..I'd like to replace all of them and change it to a split system.. as I was describing the issue to my brother it hit both of us at the same time..our brains are a bit slow I'm 51and he's 65 . we laughed because neither of us could remember what they were called..any way that was the easy part. Looks like finding the parts is going to be the hard part. Nobody around here seems to carry or even list parts for the C40. I realize the engine, interior and glass are same as a C30 right? But what about chassis parts, drive train, suspension and brakes? Where can I get these parts from? These have 2 wheel cylinders top and bottom..there are not many REAL Auto parts stores left in this town.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
I found a guy in Tulsa that has a stock of old no’s parts. But he’s very proud of them. It’s. www.phillipsmusclecarparts.com. 918-745-0784. Google it for more information. I found a Blazer gas tank sending unit $$$$$$$. But it is NOS.

Re: 68 C40 Food Truck Build
Try here https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-21510-w19090.aspx for wheel cylinders. Might be made in Chinee, I didn't poke around much. If they are made in Chinee, you will be replacing them every few years- they use cheap US ore for the metal.
