Headers for 70 C10 LWB 350cu
I am looking to put headers on my 1970 C10 Longbed 2wd with a 350 chevy and a TH350 auto trans.
I have been looking at a set of Headman headers from Summit Racing. What I want is somthing that will FIT. This is not a show truck. It is only driven occasionally and will never see salt (Florida!). And a few more questions.. any recommendations on Header gaskets. and last but not least.. any recommendations for a good performing quiet muffler. Thanks in advance Shawn

I have a set of flow-tech's that I will be trading off for a set of chevelle 3/4 length headers when I get around to it. The flow-tech hang below the frame and with a lowered truck it's scary.
I use fel-pro stock manifold gaskets for the flanges and two paper collector gaskets on each collector. I can't really help with the muffler though.

I have Heddman's on my '72 C10 with 350 engine/TH350 trans. They fit great...wen't right in without a hitch. The only complaint i have is that the passenger side collector points up at the cab a little bit....dosent' harm the function any but it looks a little goofy. I agree with Hotrod, if your truck is lowered you really don't want full lenght headers. My truck is stock height so i have plenty of clearance, but with a 3" drop i might be scraping stuff.
And yes, use Fel-Pro manifold gaskets for the manifolds. Cheaper, easier to install, and work better than header gaskets. I have had bad luck with the collector gaskets, and ended up switching from paper to copper gaskets. The copper gaskets won't blow out like the paper ones, so if they leak just tighten them up and they will be fine. They will last pretty much forever. The only disadvantage is that they cost $10-$20. For a good quieter muffler, Dynomax Super Turbos are great. They flow good, and have a mellow rumble on a small block. When i had them in my truck with a completley stock 350 and ramshorn manifolds, i could hear the truck around town, but it was virtuially silent on the highway. I hear Dynomay Hemi Turbos are even quieter. Good luck!

I have the headmans you are talking about and am happy with them. I just wish that they were ceramic coated, mine arent.
I had to install the drivers side from underneath, and the passenger side went in from the top!! I also would recommend the felpro set, but have Magnaflows on mine. NIce low rumble when you get on it, but I can also enjoy my tunes when travelling down the freeway.

If you have the money, look at the hooker super comps...be warned, they ain't cheap.
My truck sits pretty low up front...probably a 2 - 3 inch sag...not an intentional drop, just 500,000 mile old springs. My headers can not hit the ground. Even though they are a little bit lower than the frame, the front cross member will hit way before the headers...ask me how i know. I agree with the fell pro manifold gaskets up top...that is all I have ever used, and never had a problem. Your headers will come with paper gaskets for the bottom...throw thewm away. The dead soft alluminum ones do everything they are said to do. Mine don't leak, they are about 5 years old, and they have been removed so many times it is unreal. Best 38 bucks I have ever spent...and they can be had cheaper than that too if you look hard enough. Check out the FAQ board for threads on headers... Here are pics of mine and how they fit. drivers side Passenger side...ignore the low buck ipstick tube retainer. The tube broke where it bolts to the block. This pic also shows exactly how thick the dead sof alluminum is on the collectors. Another importnat thing about these headers, they are thick. Very nice craftsmanship...given the cash..I would buy some for the big block in an instant. |

Yeah, pretty much.
I had to redo it when I swapped ou to a small serp belt. I just found a small piece of pipe (same diameter as above) and cut it to fit. |
