1950 3100 Door Adjustment
Hello everyone. I've been working on my old (very rusty) truck for a few months now. My goal is to complete all of the rust repair and get the cab structurally sound before moving on. I wanted to get the door to line up before I welded any more metal, but it's fighting me.
Before anyone asks... No, I did not brace this cab before cutting and welding. The front cab mounts were gone, most of the kick was gone, the lower hinge pockets gone, and the floor was covered in layered sheet metal and fiberglass. I keep looking for reference points, compare measurements side-to-side, and also compare to my dad's nearly rust free truck for reference. Hopefully this works out. No matter how much I try to adjust this, I cannot get the belt line right on the doors. It appears as if my entire door needs to shift up, but there is not adjustment in the hinges (which are rebuilt). I assume the hinges have been tweaked over the years and need to be heated and bent up to raise the door. Is there something else I should try before I heat and bend the hinges? |

Hmm, what's that, about an eighth inch off? That's probably as good as the Chevy factory made them when new.

You're right. It's close, but of course we all get a little OCD on these things. This should end up better than original. It will just take me a few years...

That's what I was thinking. Build it and drive it is my philosophy

Come on, there has to be someone that has experienced this before... Trust me, this looks worse in person haha

Re: 1950 3100 Door Adjustment
Ran into the same problem with my 49 3100. What I had to do was remove door and use a die grinder to make the holes in the door hinges longer, so I could tweak the door up in the back. You may have to remove some metal from both top and bottom hinges, to make door fit properly.
