S10 Steering wheel horn hook up into 67-72 column
I've seen some of our trucks with the steering wheel from a mid 90's S10 steering wheel on them. I would like to do that as well but my question is, how is the horn hooked up so it works properly as obviously it is different set up for the horn button. Any help would be nice! ~ Lorenzo

Do you already have the steering wheel? Do you have the horn contact wire from the S10?.

Re: S10 Steering wheel horn hook up into 67-72 column
This is how I did mine. My column is a tilt, but I think this would be the same process for a standard column.
If you don't have the horn connector from the S10, buy one of these first. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...horn+connector Some modification to the wire is required. The horn contact we are dealing with is in the turn signal canceling cam. If it is the original GM cam the horn connector wire can be modified as follows: - Pull the contact pin, red collar and spring out of the cam. You should see what is shown in picture 1 below. - Cut the spade connector off the new horn contact wire. - Remove the plastic sleeve with the retaining nubs from the wire and discard. - Place the red collar on the wire with the spring and attach a new spade connector. Picture 2. - Insert the modified wire into the cancelling cam until the red collar snaps into place. Picture 3. - Place the canceling cam on the column. Picture 4. - The cancelling cam should be positioned in the new steering wheel as shown in picture 5 when the wheel is installed. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 06-21-2018 at 02:13 AM. |
