69 C20 Convert Drum to Disc?
Hey everone, new guy here on the forum. I was thinking of converting my 69 C20 from drum to disc. (8 lug) w/ 16" tires
I found a conversion kit online, but it states… Note: May not work with factory 15" drum brake wheels. Moves wheels out .75", 3/4" on each side https://www.performanceonline.com/19...-8-Lug-Deluxe/ Anyone have experience with this type of conversion or any suggestions? I’m trying to avoid having to buy new rims and wheels also. |

Re: 69 C20 Convert Drum to Disc?
Do you have 15" 8 lug wheels? That wasn't very common in my experience. Of the (4) 70-72 3/4 ton trucks I have owned they all had either 16" or 16.5" rims.
But you will need to buy new wheels if you have 15's. You can run some 15's but they usually require minimum backspacing and look goofy IMO. FWIW, the disc conversion on my 70 GMC C2500 was the best modification I did to the truck. Search here on the board for C20 disc conversion. Here is a link to search I did. https://www.google.com/search?domain...D%3A1%3B&hl=en

Look into getting a donor front end from a square body (73-87). The front end should just bolt right in. It's been discussed at length on the forum if you do a search.

Re: 69 C20 Convert Drum to Disc?
I just did this on my 69 C20. Was going to use that kit but it is way too expensive for what you get.
I found a local 71 C20 and just swapped the whole front end. $200 and pretty easy. The only thing that wasn't a direct swap was the front hard brake line. It had a different fitting at the valve so I cut the line and put a new fitting on it. |

Yup. And you can verify that the parts are all there and not damaged, before you pull it. I should have done that, but got in a hurry and just bought a kit.
