1969 step bumper

I like the sport bumper on our trucks, Im working on a 1969 c10 swb fleetside and it has a fugly step bumper. Here is my idea since im cheap and like to re-use what I have . take the step bumper and cut it down and reweld it, what I dont like about the step bumpers is how deep they are. I tried to search for anyone who my have done it but I didn't find any post about cutting down a step bumper.
Do step bumpers have any value and I shouldn't cut it
