Dropped front wheel size to allow turning corners.
I have seen a ton of pics of dropped trucks with their wheels tucked in the wheel wells, but am wondering if they are able to realistically drive and turn corners (slow speed) all tucked up like that or they are just lowered for pics only.
What would be the max wheel size and offset to be able to turn the front wheels? I am planning to run 22” transits on a bagged front (currently the front crossmember lays on ground with 15”) and channeled rear if it is practically.

Re: Dropped front wheel size to allow turning corners.
It's possible to not change the tires outside diameter when going from a 15" wheel to a 22" wheel. You gain clearance for things like big brakes and drop spindles with big wheels.
You can run a 27" tall tire on a 15" wheel or a 22" wheel. What size tire are you running now? How much clearance do you have now? |

Re: Dropped front wheel size to allow turning corners.
I’m in the process of a full rebuild. I did not take any measurements prior to disassembling. At this point I am working on the frame with no body panels.
I have a 3” pocket in my lower control arms, drop spindles and air bags that drop the 235 60 r15 that the front crossmember is laying on the ground. I do have a set of 285 40 r22 on transits that I would like to use if I can still turn corners. I realize that I can air up to gain clearance, but would like to know if anyone has experience with this. I was going to attempt this conversion with 3/4” wheel spacers before I swap to 6 bolt axles and disks.
