71 Steering column mounting bracket

Hey guys so i just replaced the later model steering column that the orevious owner had installed with a tilt column that i picked up from kevsclassic.

The issue im running into is the okd column was held together with a thin strip of metal on the bottom and bolted to this bracket which is bolted to the firewall. The first three pictures I uploaded shows the mount that’s bolted to the firewall. It also looks like my brake pedal may be bolted to that bracket. The last picture is what I come to find on here that I’ll need so my column won’t hang.

My question is....is it okay to remove the bracket that is in there right now? Is that correct for this 71? I’m hoping I could take it out as it would clear up much space.

Thanks guys

Re: 71 Steering column mounting bracket

Sorry. Idk why the first three pictures were rotated to the left 90 degrees.
