New Tailgate Band Cut and Polished

Been searching for a early model tailgate band without a emblem pretty scarce....finally found one cut and polished it and replaced the one with a factory emblem

Looks very good. What was the polish process you used. I have been wanting to freshen mine up but may not get that good. I have tried a few polishing methods with not much luck.

I'm guessing 73 to 80 haven't seen too many for sale without the emblem. This one had the factory woodgrain decal on it. Found it on E-Bay.

Re: New Tailgate Band Cut and Polished

EZ -OFF to strip the anodizing wet sanded with 400,600,800,1500,2000 grit and polished on a wheel with white rouge and finished it with white diamond aluminum polish.

If you don't want go to that detail this one I stripped with EZ-OFF and polished it with a rotary buffer with a orange cutting pad and white diamond

The only year that was 100% plain was 1973 GMC-the emblem was high up on the tailgate. There was a guy on FB who had an NOS one for sale but he sold it literally 2 hours after he mentioned having one lol.

Awesome...I recently did the same but did one more step of rebrushing it with a block and some 120 then clear... yours is making me thinking should've just kept it polished.

I have a few 73-74 GMC gates with mint bands. I also have one with the polished louvered band. I'm really surprised no one is reproducing these. Seems like a no brainer
