Clip Front End
What year Camaro/firebird do you use to clip the front end on a 55 1st . I have heard of '70 to '81 and '82 to '92. I have an '84 Firebird that I would like to use wil it work?

i would go with the earlier70-81 but just my preference as i have never done this type of swap yet but i have friends the have and they either went w/ the early camaro or nova

Why cut your frame in half? Go with a Mustang II clone IFS . I did and it is easy and you don't need to cut off the inner fenders and do a bunch of fabrications to remount the radiator, front bumper and etc. I recommend a Martz Engineering Chassis with its full 1/4 inch crossmember and its ability to avoid cutting off the bottoms of the inner fenders. I have a 79 sub frame, too wide for the front end. I am going to put a Total cost involved independent supension in my 54 truck, it bolts or welds right in the frame. Rico bob is right, this better way to go. There is many business out there, Heidt's , fatman,and others. I am also putting in a 4 bar ling in the rear end.

Pugs is right on with the years..'70-'81 Camaro, Firbird or Nova.

On my 55 1st series, I used, would you believe, the front end from a 76 AMC Pacer. Only required 2 easy to fab plates to add the crossmember. Bone yard GAVE me the clip to get rid of it. This was 15 years ago. Still see the truck around occasionally. If I can run it down, I will get pics.

I have put IFS under a dozen of the AD trks(47-54). The best fit is the Must II & the down sized Chevelle,Buick Regal,Olds Cutless....etc. These late model GM front suspensions(84-88?) are 3" narrower than the the 2nd series Camaro.
They are much cheaper than the Must II. They come w/disc brakes,anti sway bar,PS. There have been a few failures of the lower control arm on the Must II that have the strut rod eliminator. Don |

A friend of mine used an S-10 clip. Perfect width, and the replacement parts are readily available.

well since i had sold off my 54 chevy, Im in process of decideing whether or not to replace the clip on my 47 international project, I dont like the way it was done, or just go w/ an s-10 chassis when i get to that point i will take pics of what i do

The second series is too wide. Try the late model chevelles....ie 86
