New member, new 65' GMC
Hello.
I figured I'd start off in here, as I have no idea about this truck I just picked up. It came in a trade for a 5th wheel trailer I had sitting for sale for a while. I know it's a 65', it's a GMC, and it was bought and resided in one city in Southern Utah for it's life. Other than that, I really don't know where to start with this. I'm not sure yet if I want to keep it, or get rid of it, but it is nice regardless. My previous 60's era cars are of the VW and Porsche variety, so this is completely new to me. I've started to peruse the forum here, and other internet sites for information, but I figured I'd throw up a few pictures to see if I can grab some ideas on what all this trucks entails. Everything seems pretty solid and straight, and original from what I can tell. The only real major rust is in the passenger side fender. It has a swapped 350 from a 97' tahoe, and some very bright turquoise accents. My first task will be to get the lights working appropriately, as LED's have been added, and are not working. Then it would be getting rid of the turquoise color on the wheels and gas cap. Unfortunately the entire engine is that color, so I'll have to live with that. Thanks for any help on identifying what I've picked up. |

I like it. My Grand Pa had a turquoise 64 Impala. Turquoise was popular back then too.

I don't mind turquoise for the right car. My 63' VW was turkis (turquoise), I'm just not sure I like the contrast.

You do have to appreciate the detail of getting the bolt heads to match. Classic. My 69 VW Squareback was turquoise, with hot pink swoosh down each side. What can I say, it was the 80’s, high school and beach area of Southern California......LOL

The outside is a little rough, but the engine and engine bay look good! With some TLC, the whole truck could look great! If you don't mind me asking, how much do you figure you have in it?

Welcome to the forum That looks like a relatively straight and rust free truck. That passenger fender is an easy fix.
FYI, That engine is not a '97 Vortec 350. It is a '88-'95 TBI 350.

Thats a nice truck for sure. As for ID it looks to be a pretty standard c1000 that originally had the V6. Looks to be dana 44 rear axle do you know which transmission it has in it? I'm just wondering if it has been swapped out at some point as well since the shifter position just looks odd but that could just be camera angle or something, if all else the shift pattern might help identify it.
If the color on motor bugs you maybe take a few small bolt ons off and give them a satin black treatment to tone it down without having to spray entire engine. To elaborate on Captainfab pointing out the TBI engine its the intake bolts that give away a vortec head even if it has been swapped to carb. The vortec heads have all the bolts going straight up and down and TBI head has center ones up and down and rest angled like older perimeter bolt heads. |
