opinions on chop top
I have some major drip rail damage and thought of just replacing top and wondered what everyone thinks and if there are any old threads on this??

I think that wes at classic heartbeat or one of the other vendor's was selling reproduction drip rail's that could also be an option..

I've also been wanting to chop a top on one of my C10's. I want one radical truck & my idea ia a top chop, big block, dropped chassis, custom tailgate & taillights.....this is all on stepside....I helped out on a chopped 51 Merc years ago so I know it's not easy...........Zoomy

i already checked on that but it has door jamb damage also and i found a roof section for the same price

Think about it like this. If you are going to cut the top off to replace it anyway, try out your chop top ideas on the old top first. If you junk it it was already bad, if it works out get your new top and cut the posts, section it and have fun.

I'm with jugernot. I have never liked the chop look on trucks. It makes the body look too tall and disproportioned. Just my two cents.

I agree with Shane. If it's that far gone that it needs replacing you've got nothing to lose by giving it a try. If it doesn't work out, you're in the right location to locate an entire replacement cab if need be.

I say chop it, but only slightly. A very subtle chop makes the truck look better (IMHO) while a big (3" or 4") chop makes the cab look out of proportion to the rest of the truck. In the end it's up to you, do what you think is best.

If a custom look is what you want then its a good opportunity to hack away, But if your just looking for an easy way to repair rust
then find you a donor cut the posts close to the cab. take all the glass out of yours break out the tape measure and the masking tape and pick a spot on the posts that are uniform in shape(not flaring or critical when placing the new roof on)and measure and mark with a band of tape do this to all four posts then keeping with the stock measurments do the donor roof the same way cut all eight posts set the donor on your truck and weld it up! P.S think three times measure twice cut once |

I agree with MrShelley...If your going to do it...go with very little chop...too much doesn't look good on these trucks. I also agree on practicing on the bad roof first...if you don't like it, just cut it off and weld a new roof on

heres a pic of a pic,sorry about the quality.
its a 69 barracuda fast back with a 7in chop,lowerd to 3in from the ground. it used to be my dads car,the guy that built it did something that most guys dont do,he cut the wheel wells higher so you could see the whole tire,after seeing other cars and trucks that have been chopped and slammed and the fenders cover the top part of the tire, i think that cutting the fenders makes a huge differance in the apperance of the vehicle |

Thanks for all the replies,thats what i love about this board. i'm not into radical chops but i figured since i bought a roof sec i might try it. what does this do to the side windows,any mods or they just don;t roll all the way up??
