Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Both of these show up in three-quarter tons for all years. How did the factory spec Dana 60 vs HO52?? GVW? Small Block- Big Block? Auto or Stick? None of the above??
Thanks, Steve weim55 Colorado |

On C/20s you got the Dana 60 with the leaf spring option and the big block/auto combination. All C2500s came with Dana60

curious question, does the spid indicate an difference between the dana and the ho? not through the leaf vs coil option but separately as a separate item.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
No. Neither are an option themselves. GMC went with Dana60 rear and Chevy stayed with the corporate rear. I guess for economics, since GMCs came through with leaf springs, GM used the same rear when Chevys got the leaf spring option. GM wanted a taller gear ratio for the big block coupled with automatic transmission than offered in the corporate rear, so they went with the Dana60 with 3.54 ratio. The 3.54 ration also does not show as an option, but was what you got when you went with BBC/auto options together.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Were there Dana's in the 3/4 tons 4x4's? They would not big block available but had leaf springs. All the ones I have seen have the Eaton.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
My 69 c20 is a factory 396, th400 with a 3.54 dana 60. But also has a coil rear end.
I thought it went small block = ho52, big block = dana 60.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Big block Chevy with 4spd got the HO52. Big block/auto Chevy got 3.54 Dana60. Leaf Spring was still an option, so both coil and leaf were offered. K2500s came with Dana60 and K/20 came with HO52.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Saw a C/20 once, unsure of the year, think it had a Big Block, Dana 60 with coils.
Friend has a '70 C/20, 350, Dana 60 with leafs.

Mine's a C20, 400/400 w/ 3.54 Dana 60 and leaf springs. A commoner, I guess.

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Something I noticed from another thread the HO52 is a 5200lb axle and Dana 60 is a 5500lb axle, All Camper Specials get the 5500lb. Dana? Coil spring Dana produced? And lastly, no 3.54 for the HO52?

Re: Which drive train options denote HO52 vs Dana60?
Those ratings mean nothing to me. The HO52 was rated in the '40s when they first were used. The fact is the HO52 is stronger. At least that is my opinion/experience. What's 300# anyway, a passenger?
Yes there were coil spring Dana 60s. No 3.54 HO52s. 4.10 was the tallest gear offered. There was an aftermarket gear set in 3.90 offered at one time. Big whoop, not even a quarter turn gain for that expense and labor. Taller tires could make more sense.
