No Fuel to the carburetor!
I have an 86 GMC short bed with dual tanks and I am not getting fuel to the carb.
Is there anything from the tanks that can prevent glass flowing to the fuel pump on the block? If not then the fuel pump must be bad, right? When the switch on the dash for dual tanks is pushed in at the top which tank, right or left, is supplying gas? Thanks Last edited by Nickelcharlie; 09-27-2018 at 08:23 PM. |

Top is usually the right tank.
Turn the ignition on and listen for the valve to move when you push the switch.Look to see if the guage is moving too. Sometimes it won't move far enough,the guage won't move and you get no gas from either tank. Valve may be clogged up or bad and the sock in the tank may be clogged up. And,it's possible the fuse is bad=no power to switch. Working on mine today. Mike.

There is a filter on the end of the fuel pickup tube in the tank. If it has never been replaced then it can likely be your problem. They will come apart, especially with ethynol fuel. I just went through this with mine. The filter came apart and clogged up my filter and some even got by and into my carb. I dropped the tank and replaced the in tank filter. |

I had a small crack in the hose at the tank where it bent up and over. It would suck air but would,t leak .Found it after I bought a new fuel pump

Mice will sometimes nibble on the suction hoses on the tank tops. Guessing old hoses + ethanol was enough of an attraction. Got both of mine within days of each other. Have seen forum pics of rusted out sending unit tops that let air it.
Old hoses can crumble and let air in. As a test, pull the hose(s) from the input side of the switch valve and connect direct to the frame pipes. Don't forget the suction line from the frame to the fuel pump. On my 75, in on the switch top is right tank. |
