New Addition
What do you do when your 2500HD Duramax leaves you stranded on I-25 South in Socorro, NM with a 66 Suburban on a trailer?
1. Struggle to find a tow for repairs. 2. Get towed to local shop and stay in motel. 3. Rent 10 ft U-Haul to load parts out of 2500 for trip home - leaving truck for repairs. 4. Do a little "power truck shopping" (in U-Haul )to ease the pain and frustration - great mental therapy!!!! 5. Buy two more trucks: 1957 GMC 100, orig 347 Pontiac, 4 speed hydramatic & power steering, running and driving. 1984 Pro Street S-10. 6. Better now - 2 hrs later - headed home!!!

Re: New Addition
Sound like one heck of a trip, feel like I have been to that same fueling station a few times in my life, pretty sure I was towing my 59 on a U-haul as well.

Re: New Addition
I dig it. The bed patina is awesome. But the flat black from the front is cool to.

BBW, Deluxe Cab, and no bed. Was that truck originally a Suburban Carrier?

Re: New Addition
Thanks guys - really turned my attitude and trip around. Stoked to get GMC BBW with Cab trim. Gonna play with the black on Cab - orig color is the same as bed - see if I can get good patina. Was orig a long Bed - frame shortened and Chevy bed installed. For you GMC gurus out there - a question: there are round canisters on both sides of the straight axle above spindles - is that some sort of power brake setup? Never seen that before. No pics of S10 - too tight in building to get pictures.
Thinking about old school for GMC - would love to find orig 3 deuces set up for the 347

Re: New Addition
if its just black primer over original paint, you can buy some original easy off oven cleaner and spray it on in sections, let it sit, and wash off the primer with the garden hose. I did this to my 65, it worked tremendously well.
has to be the original easy off, the fume free will not work. funny story, when I was doing my 65 I asked my wife to go get some easy off. I have sent her after things before and know how her brain works so I sat her down and said, get the original. I cant use the fume free. here is a picture of the can, see how its yellow? thats the one I need. not the blue. the blue is the fume free and I cant use it. only the original, the yellow can. yellow starts with y and so does yes. she came home with two blue cans and said "I KNOW YOU TOLD ME YELLOW ORIGINAL BUT THE BLUE FUME FREE WAS BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!"

Re: New Addition
I was going to take a picture of the two blue cans of fume free that were still under the sink after 5 years and my wife said she finally threw them away earlier this year.

Re: New Addition
Start color sanding with maybe 2000 grit. Stop the moment you see the green. Then the remaining black SHOULD come off with mild rubbing compound if it’s rattle can black. When it’s all exposed I’d leave it the original green. Cut and buff the entire truck, it’ll look great with all that chrome on it.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I'll let you know about the ride quality when I get the emergency brake set up completed - pretty much a requirement with the hydramatic - no park with that trans.

I once owned a 55.2 BBW with Hydramatic. That was before I had my license so I only managed to tear up the fields with it. It took a while before I learned I could engage reverse before shutting the engine off in order to park "in gear." It's a designed in feature. Last edited by 1project2many; 10-19-2018 at 03:33 AM. |
