Suburban A/C
I have a 72 Suburban that I’ve been working on over the past year. It has factory front/rear air conditioning. I’m swapping over to a LS this winter and am considering upgrading to a Vintage Air unit up front to clean up the firewall and under dash a little in the process. I’d like to keep air in the rear as well for the kids if possible. Does anyone have any experience of converting an evaporator (rear unit) from R12 to R134a?? Thanks for looking and for any recommendations or suggestions.

Re: Suburban A/C
A replacement expansion valve is readily available for the rear unit. It should be adjustable if it isn't getting cold enough.

Re: Suburban A/C
I did the LS/Vintager Air swap in my '72 as well. I can tell you that the front unit alone will not be enough to cool the entire truck. Getting the rear unit to work with the VA is still on my list of things to do, but I don't have the 3rd row seating, nor do I have kids, so it hasn't been a priority. The VA unit will "cool" the front, even in the middle of summer, but it certainly doesn't work as well as the A/C in a new SUV. That likely has more to do with insulation and window seals in modern trucks compared to our 50 year old covered wagons.

Re: Suburban A/C
I have the exact combination your are describing and it works great. I left the rear unit alone and it works ok. If you can get an adjustable expansion valve I would do that.
